Comic-Con 2016: Diamond Select Toys Produces Even More Amazing Items

Diamond Select Toys Comic-Con 2016 DC

I had a great time interviewing Diamond Select Toys Marketing Supervisor Zach Oat at C2E2 this year, so I was excited to be able to get together with him at SDCC to chat about DST’s Comic-Con exclusives and some of their newly-announced items.

One thing I was super happy about was that the Diamond Select Toys SDCC exclusive Spider-Gwen PVC statue was one of their best sellers throughout the weekend. I picked one up for a full review, so fellow DST and Spider-Gwen fans, please keep an eye out for that article (I hope to have it posted within the next couple of days)! Other exclusives included an amazing statue of Captain Marvel with her mohawk as well as some busts from Batman: The Animated Series.

Some other items that Zach said were selling well at the Diamond Select Toys Comic-Con booth were their Ghostbusters offerings. While only the first two Series have been released, Series 3 comes out soon and includes Slimer, Janine, and Quittin’ Time Ray, along with bonus accessories and of course a piece of the full diorama. That said, the coolest piece they’re going to offer – at least in my opinion – is the Library Ghost, which is part of Series 5. It was awesome getting to see the prototype at SDCC even though that Series isn’t slated for release until mid-2017.

Zach also pointed out that DST will have some new Ghostbusters merchandise along with their great original Ghostbusters items (mainly Minimates, for now). I got to see the four new Ghostbusters (Abby, Erin, Holtzmann, and Patty), Slimer, Ghost Rowan, and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Needless to say, I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these Minimates…specifically Holtzman, because who isn’t in love with that character right now? (I know most of us at The Geekiary are, anyway…)

In addition to their statues, Vinimates, and Minimates, Diamond Select Toys also releases some really cool vinyl banks, and they were displaying a particularly creepy one from The X-Files – Flukeman! I have the Flukeman Minimate but the bank Zach pointed out at SDCC features a whole new level of detail for their portrayal of this particular character.

Along with new offerings from DST’s old licenses, Zach listed off many of their new licenses as well, including ones for Elf, Beetlejuice, and Iron Giant. There were also a ton of statues and busts on display for the first time, including Zatanna, nurse Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Galatea (the Power Girl clone from Justice League), and Shazam, many of which can be seen in the header picture for this article. Though to be honest, I am probably mostly excited for the Elf Vinimate…

Diamond Select Toys has also solicited Dr. Strange, and the statue they had on display was truly a work of art – it looks exactly like Benedict Cumberbatch!

Honestly, there was more at the DST booth than I could ever put in one article – and the pictures above are just some of what I captured after chatting with Zach. I highly suggest checking out their website and signing up for their newsletters (you can do so at the bottom of the left-hand column on their site). If you like what I’ve shown you so far, you’ll want their updates, because there’s much more to come!
