San Diego Comic-Con 2025 Preview

As we complete the last of our packing and wait patiently for our flights, let’s look forward to San Diego Comic-Con and all the things we’re excited to see and do while we celebrate our fandom for five straight days.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of everything that will happen during our time in and around the Convention Center, as there is too much to cover here. These are the highlights we are hoping to see.

The panels:

Tron: Ares, Hall H panel Friday at 5:30 pm.

This! This is the panel I want to see most of all. Tron and Tron: Legacy are two of my favorite movies, and I’m beyond excited to see Ares on the big screen. Although the trailer was released late last week, this panel is set up to drop a bombshell or two during it. I hope to be in Hall H when it happens.

Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Hall H, Sunday at 11:00 am.

Late in the release schedule for this year, some people were questioning if there was going to be anything on Sunday or if this was going to be an overall down year for Hall H. Then, SDCC dropped this monumental panel. George Lucas makes his return to San Diego, and he’s not alone. Being joined by Doug Chang and a little-known director by the name of Guillermo del Toro (LOL), they will be discussing illustrated storytelling and offering a sneak peek of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. And the moderator is Queen Latifah! This will be amazing to see in person.

The Long Walk, Hall H, Friday at 3:00 pm.

The latest film adaptation from master storyteller Stephen King, The Long Walk, comes to Hall H. My wife is a super Stephen King fan, and she struggled with the story, not because it was bad, but because of the subject matter. That interests me. Director Francis Lawrence looks to be away from The Hunger Games franchise to try his hand at a horror film. But the cherry on my sundae is the hiring of Mark Hamill. Finally, people are seeing that he is a good actor. I will be interested to see how much we are shown during the panel, seeing the film is still a few months from release. Nevertheless, this could be interesting

Project Hail Mary, Hall H, Saturday at 2:15 pm.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller bring their big-screen adaptation of Andy Weir’s novel of the same name to SDCC. I loved this novel. I’ve wanted it to get an adaptation for years, and here it is. Joining Lord, Miller, and Mr. Weir will be screenwriter Drew Goddard and an up-and-coming actor, Ryan Gosling. This panel will give us a ton of insight into making this novel come alive on the screen.

An Afternoon with George Takei, Sunday, Room 6, 1:30 pm.

This is one of the many smaller panels I’m excited to see. I’ve been a fan of George for several years and would love to hear his life story or at least hang out in the room while he’s telling stories.

There is so much to do outside of the convention, with activations happening all over the place.

The one I’ve wanted to attend for years is Paramount+ The Lodge. As I Couch Con’d from home, I watched with jealousy as I saw pictures from inside this amazing setup. Luckily, I get to attend this year and I can’t wait. Alien: Earth has a large activation, and although I’m not the biggest Alien franchise fan, this looks like a lot of fun.

There are activations for all types of fandoms. SpongeBob, King of the Hill, Google Play, Doctor Who, and too many to share. And for almost all of them, you don’t even need a badge. You will, however, have to wait in long lines, which is part of the con experience.

On the toy front, Hasbro always announces new Star Wars Black Series. I’m not sure what they are going to show us, seeing that there are no current Star Wars projects coming soon, so I will be surprised by whatever they have for us. They will also have new Transformers and G.I. Joes as always.

Funko has a panel this year where they are announcing something. I haven’t heard for sure what they are bringing, but I don’t care. I’m always happy when they bring new products to the market, even if they aren’t for me. I wanted to go to Fundays, but they decided not to be at SDCC this year.

There have been a ton of exclusive comics announced. Some I’m interested in, some not so much. But I’m excited to see the Alex Ross booth. I like his art style and have always wanted a piece. Maybe this is the year?

There will be tons of cosplays all over the place. I will be sharing as much as I can on our social media channels. And there will be parties everywhere. Maybe I can sneak into one or two.

This being my first year, I know I’m going to be overwhelmed and will need to pace myself the best I can. Currently, I have 5 or 6 interviews to do with creators of all types. I’m going to have to force myself to have some fun, maybe some proper shopping.

What are you most excited to see this year from San Diego Comic-Con? And who’s going?

Like I said, follow us on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky for all the latest updates during the week. See you all on Wednesday!

I’d rather find the things that I like about a story, movie, or tv show, than lead with negativity. I love Star Wars, Doctor Who, MCU, comic book and conventions.
