San Diego Comic-Con Preview Night: Toys

On the preview night of San Diego Comic-Con, I was able to look at some amazing new toys and statues from Hasbro, Mattel, and Weta Workshop. Each year, these three and several others bring their best, and my wallet screams every time. Here’s some of our favorites.

The first thing I found when I walked into the vendor hall was Weta Workshop, as they made their long-awaited return to San Diego. As a big Lord of the Rings fan, I love the work that Weta has done for special effects. They have taken that knowledge and turned it into some amazing, realistic statues that would look at home in any art gallery.

They also do Stranger Things, Laura Craft, and other fandoms.

Next, I made a stop at the Hasbro booth. Now, to be fair, I only looked at the Star Wars figures, seeing that it is my favorite fandom. There were also new Transformers and G.I. Joe figures, but the booth was more packed than most of the others in the area, so I only looked at Star Wars and got out of the way.

The 3 and 3/4 inch gets me right in my member berries.

Jod from Skeleton Crew. Although, in my opinion, they did Judd Law a little dirt with the sculpt of his face.

The main event in the booth was Obi-Wan versus Anakin from Revenge of the Sith. I saw several people walking around with it already. I want to buy it, but not sure how I can get on the plane home, and I’m trying not to have to ship things home.

One quick addition was the fun Fantastic Four. Although I don’t collect Marvel action figures, these did look really good.

Last stop for me on Preview Night was the Mattel booth.

The exclusive I saw that most people were talking about from Mattel was the Back to the Future DeLorean and Van. They looked so good. I didn’t win the lottery for anything this year. This was one of the ones I wanted the most.

The other exclusive was the “We’re going to need a bigger boat!” set for the 50th Anniversary of Jaws.

And this was something I didn’t know I needed, an Elvira doll.

My favorite display from Mattel was all the movie and TV Hot Wheels. Being a kid who collected and played with Hot Wheels, this was so cool to see. I could name every single one of these and could own all of them, if I had the space.

These were only three of the booths I was able to step into and see what they brought this year. Toys are always a big draw at Comic-Con. So far, I am not disappointed because I know how much money I would spend on all of these if I were able to take them home. And I didn’t even make it over to Funko or Loungefly!

I’d rather find the things that I like about a story, movie, or tv show, than lead with negativity. I love Star Wars, Doctor Who, MCU, comic book and conventions.
