“Revamp” Rises from the Dead, Drops Trailer & Release Date

It’s been 84 years, but it’s finally coming. After countless delays, pilot reshoots, recasts, and management company changes, Revamp: The Undead Story has finally emerged from its coffin and dropped the official trailer and release date. Buckle up, because this is about to become my personality.
I know I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the biggest fan of vampires. Yes, I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but what teenaged girl in the ’90s didn’t? When all the vampire BL pilots were dropping in 2024, I resolved to pick one and be done with it. I ended up going with My Golden Blood, which I ultimately gave up on after about six episodes for various reasons. In fact, I originally wasn’t going to give Revamp a chance at all, because I was unfamiliar with the bulk of the cast and the pilot seemed darker than I like.
But then I watched Until We Meet Again and Between Us and fell in love with BounPrem (Boun Noppanut and Prem Warut), and since then, I rewatched that Revamp pilot trailer something like fifteen times. I started getting super excited. And last night I happened to be on Instagram and saw that they were dropping the official trailer today. For those who aren’t familiar with the timelines of Thai series, an official trailer being released means that the premiere is imminent. Most trailers are released within two or three weeks of a show airing.
The first thing you all have to understand about Revamp is that the fact that it’s even coming out at all is an accomplishment. This series has been in development for years. It was originally supposed to come out through Studio WabiSabi, which shut down their artist management arm a couple of years ago, and many of their actors (including Boun and Prem) moved to GMMTV. Revamp came with them. The pilot trailer was reshot and included as part of GMMTV’s 2024 lineup. Filming started all the way back in March. And here we are, more than halfway through 2025, and we finally have a release date.
So when I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was grab my phone. (Although, to be fair, that’s the first thing I do every morning.) I went right to YouTube to watch the official trailer.
The official trailer is a bit campier than the pilot (which you can still watch if you hurry, GMMTV usually privates the pilots once the trailers get released). When I first saw this in the 2024 presentation, I was initially put off by how dark and dramatic it seemed. Don’t get me wrong, I can enjoy dark and dramatic, but it’s not usually something I gravitate towards, and with the sheer number of BLs to choose from, I figured I wouldn’t enjoy it. That is was about vampires didn’t help.
And then I became obsessed with Between Us, and now I’ll watch anything with Boun and Prem in it.
Some fans have been put off by the campiness, which is fair. The vibe and tone seem very different to the one from the pilot, but that’s to be expected with BLs. (I remember how different The Heart Killers trailer was from the pilot. Same with The Trainee. Sometimes they seem like totally different shows.) There have been several vampire BLs that have aired in the last couple of years, and pretty much all of them have been camp. Anyone looking for a serious vampire BL is bound to be feeling disappointed.
Actually, seeing this trailer makes that Insta reel make a lot more sense.
I loved the trailer. Yes, there is more humor in this than there was in the pilot (which had none), but aside from the few bits at the beginning, it was pretty dramatic and action-heavy. The fight scenes do look a little awkward, but we’re also seeing snippets of scenes. I know the purpose of a trailer is to drum up interest, but I try not to judge specific elements too harshly until I’ve seen the overall, finished product.
The story seems pretty intriguing. Ramil (Boun) is the last of his vampire lineage, and he’s been trapped in a painting for 100 years. Punn (Prem) is asked to restore the painting, but he cuts himself, and his blood awakens Ramil. However, Ramil has lost his powers, and is now in danger from the Hunters, who seek to eliminate all vampires. What piques my interest is that this seems like a role reversal from many typical vampire stories. Here, it looks like the human will have to protect the vampire, rather than the other way around.
Plus, like I said, I’ll watch anything with Boun and Prem in it. Have y’all seen Even Sun? It could be worse. (Actually, I liked Even Sun. Drop a couple of subplots and add an episode or two and it would have been fine.)
Anyway, I am seated and ready for this. My Saturdays are set. Also, I plan on reviewing this, so look forward to my nonsensical capslock and theories that end up going nowhere.
Revamp: The Undead Story premieres August 23. From what I can tell, for those of us in the States, it will be on iQIYI.
