Geek Fitness Alert: Train Like Marvel’s Super Heroes with Her Universe!
As the type of person who loves working out, Marvel, and Her Universe, I was very excited for the announcement that this Sunday, April 17th, Ashley Eckstein will be hosting a Periscope called “Learn to Train like Marvel’s Super Heroes”.
So if you want to train like Marvel’s Super Heroes with not only Ashley, but also Heidi Moneymaker, the stunt double for Black Widow, and fitness trainer Lisa Newman, make sure to catch @HerUniverse on Periscope at 3 PM EDT/12 noon PDT this coming Sunday. This event was inspired by something I never knew I needed in my life but clearly do – that being the new Marvel activewear line collaboration between Kohl’s and Her Universe. “Learn to Train Like Marvel’s Super Heroes” is sponsored by @StyledByMarvel, Kohl’s, and Kelsey Edwards Photography.
The press release was very clear that even in order to train like Marvel’s Super Heroes, “No experience is necessary, just the right frame of mind and the willingness to learn how to #BeAHero!” All you need to do is to follow @HerUniverse on Twitter (in case you’re like me and had no idea, Periscope is actually paired with Twitter) and keep an eye out around the specified time on Sunday – they’ll post the link as soon as it’s live!
You can also watch Ashley’s video about the event for more information:
However, if you can’t fit “Learn to train like Marvel’s Super Heroes” into your schedule but are still interested in geek fitness, I have to give a shout out to Camp Nerd Fitness. While I haven’t had a chance to attend yet, my trusted friend James from Held for Ranson has. It came to mind when I saw the #BeAHero hashtag, because he wrote a great blog post after his Camp Nerd Fitness experience in 2015, and the entry was titled “Who’s a hero?“. In it he talked about how Camp Nerd Fitness was difficult because you are committing to pushing yourself for a weekend, but that it was absolutely worth it. He said, “The people I met this weekend are, in every sense of the phrase, my people. We’re on a collective hero’s journey, and even when we go it alone, we’re doing it together. And that’s pretty awesome.” All I know is that hearing about his experience made me note it as an event that I need to attend in the future. It may be a bit (okay, a lot) more intensive than learning to train like Marvel’s Super Heroes for a little while on a Sunday afternoon, but I for one think it’s an amazing opportunity. There are still tickets available for this year’s Camp Nerd Fitness (which takes place September 21st-25th in Clayton, GA), so if you’re really into the idea of spending a long weekend learning new things, meeting new people, and getting your fitness on, I say check out their website!
(And hey, while we can’t promise you awesome videos about training like Super Heroes, The Geekiary has a Periscope too, @TheGeekiary – make sure to follow us for fun convention Periscopes and more!)
