In a surprising turn of events, the live-action Alien Earth series will indeed be getting a season 2 at FX. I had lost hope in the show getting renewed after the low viewership numbers and constant online backlash.

I got to learn about the news about Alien Earth getting renewed for a second 2 from Variety. Along with the show continuing, Variety also shared that series creator Noah Hawley has signed a new overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television, with said deal allegedly valued in the nine-figure range. Good for him.

As for fans of Alien Earth, I mean, this is big news indeed. Most fans had given up hope. As for me, I enjoyed reviewing the show when it began. However, come episode 5 of the 8-episode-long first season, I couldn’t ignore the poor writing anymore. One of my biggest gripes with the show was that the characters were supposed to be quite intelligent, and yet they couldn’t stop making not-so-intelligent mistakes due to plot reasons.

Other than that, the narrative is supposed to be all about themes related to humanity, war, AI, nature, and the like, but when it comes down to it, the show itself does nothing but scratch the surface of the rich material ready to be explored.

Furthermore, the online fandom isn’t on board with the show’s protagonist, named Wendy, having a Xenomorph as a pet.

With the fan reaction and viewership numbers being low, I hope Hawley somehow manages to pivot the second season of Alien Earth to deliver something worthwhile. Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the show doesn’t survive after the upcoming season, but we shall see.

Yes, I’m being dire, but it’s because I had high hopes for Alien Earth and was quite disappointed by season one.

Production is set to begin on the sophomore season in London in 2026, with the premiere likely being sometime in 2027. While the first season was shot in Thailand, the production will be moving to London.

The first season debuted on August 12, 2025, with a two-episode premiere. The finale aired on September 23, 2025. The first two chapters saw a viewership of approximately 0.598 million and 0.380 million, respectively. The finale closed with an estimated 0.469 million. Not the best numbers for an Alien IP show.

Set before the events of the original Alien movie from 1979, the show is about the creation of Hybrids, led by Wendy, and their struggle to accept their true selves while surviving on an island with dangerous alien species on the loose, including the iconic Xenomorph.

The cast includes Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, and more.

I’m thrilled that this expanded deal opens the door to new opportunities across all of Disney Entertainment Television,” shared Hawley. “FX has always supported bold, character-driven storytelling. From the very beginning with Fargo, they’ve encouraged me to take creative risks and follow the story wherever it leads. I’m grateful to continue exploring the world of ‘Alien: Earth’ alongside our partners, cast, and crew as we begin the next chapter.”
