TNT’S ‘The Alienist’ Gets Stunning Costume and Art Installation In New York!
TNT is doing a lot to promote it’s upcoming crime-thriller The Alienist and I love it! Currently, on display at the Shops at Columbus Circle, Time Warner Center NY are the costumes from the show. A behind-the-scenes video of the show’s costume department has also been released.
The Alienist is a new series I’m looking forward to watching next year. Set in the late 1800s, the current display features period-appropriate clothing worn by the show’s stars Daniel Bruhl, Dakota Fanning, and Luke Evans. The display will be present at the Shops at Columbus Circle through January 5, 2018. You’ll also be able to see a couple of stills from the upcoming show as well as sketches from costume designer Micheal Kaplan. His impressive work also includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
According to the network, “the exhibit conjures a sense of layering, veiling and dark transparency. The display presents a capsule environment for the opulent Gilded Age costumes from the series.” The installation has been designed by Abbott Miller/Pentagram. The first 6,000 people who visit the display will receive a free copy The Alienist novel.
Check out the behind-the-scenes video about the costumes that Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) wears in the series. I really like how the costume department took care to have each piece be feminine and strong to encapsulate Sara’s personality.
Here’s the official synopsis:
An unflinching psychological thriller amidst the underbelly of New York City’s “Gilded Age,” TNT’s The Alienist follows Laszlo Kreizler (Daniel Brühl, Rush), a brilliant and obsessive “Alienist” in the controversial new field of treating mental pathologies, who holds the key to hunting down a never-before-seen ritualistic killer murdering young boys. Based on the award-winning, fan-favorite novel by Caleb Carr, with standout performances from Luke Evans (The Girl on the Train) and Dakota Fanning (American Pastoral) The Alienist is a gripping, turn-of-the-century murder mystery like none other: the story of the emergence of the world’s most powerful city that will stop at nothing to bury its darkest secrets.
The Alienist is slated to premiere on Monday, January 22, 2018, at 9 p.m. ET/PT across TNT platforms.
