The desperation behind Disney/MCU wanting an Oscar-nom for its superhero characters has now become sad. The House of Mouse is literally pushing to get almost every Avengers: Endgame cast member an Oscar nomination in the Supporting categories. Ha!
I seriously don’t know where the idea that Avengers: Endgame features Oscar-worthy performances came from and why Disney embraced it. Like, why would a studio do this to itself?
- Best Supporting Actor:
- Robert Downey Jr.
- Chris Evans
- Mark Ruffalo
- Chris Hemsworth
- Jeremy Renner
- Josh Brolin
- Paul Rudd
- Don Cheadle
- Best Supporting Actress:
- Scarlett Johansson
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Zoe Saldana
- Karen Gillan
- Brie Larson
This list has to be a joke, right? Tell me that Disney/MCU is trolling us all.
They even have freaking Renner and Paltrow on there.
I mean, on second thought, I wouldn’t mind Paltrow getting an Oscar nomination and even a win just to see her get up on stage and be confused about which film she’s being rewarded for.
A nomination for Johansson can help make the Oscar 2020 nominee list quite diverse. So, I’m not against that at all.
I just can’t with Disney and this clownery.
It reminds me of how fans of the Twilight film franchise wanted the entire cast to win Oscars.
I understand having favorites. But I also understand the importance of realizing when they don’t put their best work forward. You won’t see me yelling about Halle Berry deserving an Oscar for every film she’s been a part of.
And don’t get me wrong. I realize the Academy Awards are all about connections and the winner isn’t always the most deserving. But still, when you look at the nomination list every year, you can still kind of see why particular people were nominated.
Having Renner, Rudd, and the others up there doesn’t make any sense.
Do you know which other current campaigns from Disney make sense for Avengers: Endgame?
- Adapted Screenplay
- Film Editing
- Production Design
- Costume Design
- Makeup & Hairstyling
- Sound Mixing
- Sound Editing
- Visual Effects
- Original Score
Anyway, I guess I should thank Disney for giving me a good laugh.
