First Official Look at “Canada’s Drag Race” Judging Panel Released!
The RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise continues to expand. With spin-offs in Thailand, Chile and the UK, the next stop is Canada! The upcoming season will have RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Brook Lyn Heights as the permanent judge. Here’s hoping Ryan Reynolds makes an appearance.
Canada’s Drag Race was announced last year by OUTtv, World of Wonder, Crave, and Blue Ant Studios. And fans finally got an impressive first look to enjoy. Along with RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 11’s Brooke Lyn Heights as the permanent judge (here’s my reaction to the finale), the panel will include Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman and model Stacey McKenzie.
“Canada’s got it going on. We’re a sleeping beauty, and we’re waking up. Everybody is going to be like ’Oh s—, you’re here!’ We’re the quiet storm,” McKenzie shared with Entertainment Weekly. “I can’t wait for the world to see the next Drag Race. It’s unapologetically Canadian!”
“I think that the essence of the challenges is similar to RuPaul’s Drag Race, but they’re specific to Canada,” said Bowyer-Chapman. “There are instantly recognizable Easter eggs for Canadians, but they’re universally comedic enough that other audiences won’t be left out of the joke. Seeing these queens perform, this isn’t Drag Race-lite, this is Drag Race full-stop!”
More guest judges will be announced as the season nears its summer 2020 premiere date. Some of the personalities can be read about over on the show’s Wikipedia page if you’re interested.
Schitt’s Creek cast member Dustin Milligan was recently on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race (here’s my reaction and review video). I wouldn’t be surprised if his fellow Schitt’s Creek cast members showed up for the Canadian version of Drag Race. Yes, we LOVE Schitt’s Creek!
Canada’s Drag Race will premiere this summer in Canada on Crave, and on WOW Presents Plus around the rest of the world. The first season will have 10 episodes.
So, it looks like I’ll have more Drag Race content to react to over on The Geekiary YouTube channel. I enjoyed watching the UK version and I can’t wait to see what the Candian drag queens offer.
Currently, RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 is nearing the finale. Also, RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars season 5 will premiere on June 5, 2020.
Drag Race Australia is also in the works.
