Diamond Select Toys’ New Ghostbusters 2016 Minimates Set (And More)

With the new female-led Ghostbusters getting closer and closer—release date is July 15, 2016—there’s more information about tie-in merchandise.

The latest is Diamond Select Toys announcing a new set of Minimates, featuring all four Ghostbusters–plus some ghosts, of course, including a couple of mystery spooks.

A Diamond Select Toys release! We’re getting a new Ghostbusters movie, with a new Ghostbusters team, and now we’re getting new Ghostbusters Minimates! The new Ghostbusters team is presented in four new two-packs, including Erin Gilbert with Jillian Holtzman, Abby Yates with Rowan’s Ghost, Patty Tolan with Slimer and a rare, one-per-case set of Slimed Patty with a ghost to be revealed! Each Minimates mini-figure features up to 14 points of articulation and fully interchangeable parts. In scale to all Ghostbusters and Real Ghostbusters Minimates! It hasn’t been confirmed exactly what role the ghostly Rowan plays, but there is speculation  (warning: possible spoilers at the link) about the new spirit, who does, in fact, look rather familiar in shape. There’s also Slimer, and an un-named ghostie included in the set, but we aren’t allowed to know who it is yet.

In the meantime, it’s great to see these Erin, Jillian, Abby, and Patty figures, with hopefully a lot more to come. Studios have taken criticism recently for not having enough merchandise available reflective of the important roles female heroes are playing. It looks like Sony is going to step up for the female-led Ghostbusters.

Also of interest to Ghostbusters fans, coming up in Fall 2016, Diamond Select Toys has a set of tumblers of the team from the original 1984 movie.
