Claws 2×6 Review: Double Dutch
While I enjoyed getting to know more about Desna’s past in ‘Double Dutch,’ the writing involving Jenn and Bryce felt way too predictable. With only four more episodes to go, I look forward to seeing how Desna confronts Gregory and Zlata in Claws season 2.
I was provided a screener of ‘Double Dutch’ for review. The opinions are my own.
One of the best things about ‘Double Dutch’ was how the episode opened with a shot focusing on Desna’s sad eyes, after she found out the truth about Gregory, and ended with a shot emphasizing fire returning to her spirit. She is ready for war and I can’t wait to see her enjoy taking revenge on those who did her wrong.
We learned a lot about the conditions Desna and Dean grew up in. Living in foster homes wasn’t easy for them. However, they did live with a woman who took good care of them before the two were taken away. This week’s episode involved Desna and Dean reconnecting with their kind foster mother and enabling Desna to find her fighting spirit.
As for the rest of her group, Polly and Quiet Ann took care of Jenn’s children while Virginia realized how tough running a nail salon can be. I liked seeing Virginia understanding the type of pressure Desna’s constantly under. Virginia has grown as a character through the series and here’s to hoping she continues to become better.
Polly, on the other hand, is very confused about her position and working with Zlata. Even though Quiet Ann tried to talk some sense into her head, I don’t think Polly is willing to leave her pimping business so easily.
Coming to all of the predictable writing in ‘Double Dutch,’ I have not been a fan of Jenn and Bryce’s storyline this season. I get the two don’t want to leave each other, however, I am unable to enjoy the way the show’s writers decided to break them up and are now trying to reconnect them.
Turning Hank into a bad guy makes no sense to me. I don’t know if he will decide to kill Bryce or kidnap Jenn, but seeing him in such a different way came across as lazy writing. Has this show dropped hints about Hank being crazy? As far as I can remember it has not. That is why showing Hank as a potentially dangerous threat to Jenn and Bryce’s relationship seems like an excuse to continue giving Jenn more problems in her life.
Some thoughts and questions
- Dr. Ken’s proposal was so cringy!
- Polly needs to break away from Zlata as soon as possible.
- Zlata being okay with killing her grandchild to threaten Roller was cold. She is crazy!
- I still don’t know about the exact moment Zlata and Gregory decided to become partners.
- Is Claws going to make Desna and Roller rekindle their relationship? I hope not. Desna deserves so much better.
- Kudos to the show for showing it is okay for little boys to get their nails done if they want.
- You should consider following Claws on Twitter. It is a lot of fun!
