Breaking Down The Fantastic Beasts: Crimes Of Grindelwald Teaser Trailer!
Warner Bros. has released the Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald teaser trailer, which features a lot of magic, magical creatures, and some cool character looks. Let’s break it all down!
One of the reasons I’m looking forward to the release of Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald is to know how it’ll handle Albus Dumbledore’s sexuality. While we didn’t get queer moments between Albus and Grindy in the Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindlewald teaser trailer, we did get a lot of shots showing Jude Law as the iconic fictional character.
Here’s my shot-by-shot breakdown!
List of things I noticed in the trailer as well as my thoughts (in no particular order):
- I love how the trailer opens with a shot of Hogwarts, taking the audience back to a familiar place.
- The fandom is understandably confused (upset?) about Aurors being able to apparate on Hogwarts grounds. Either J.K. Rowling forgot her rule, she doesn’t care because it looked cool, or those specific protection spells weren’t being used in the past.
- I really like Tina’s makeover!
- A very excited Jacob.
- The magical creatures looked way too CG.
- Look at how they opted for a version of the ‘show-the-butt-first’ shot, commonly reserved for female characters in media, for Albus’ introduction. Was that an intentional choice to reach out to the queer demographic? I don’t know, but it felt like an interesting choice to me.
- Why is Albus, a Transfiguration teacher, using the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom for the meeting?
- I like what Credence’s friend is wearing.
- Look at Newt casting spells with his brother Theseus. It’s a good thing, because I wouldn’t bet on Newt winning in a duel.
- Grindy has a lot of followers.
- I like the new Wizarding World logo, which looks like an open book with different wands making the pages.
- While I’m okay with Jude as a young Albus, I was hoping for a more eccentric-looking wardrobe to go along with Albus’ personality. Maybe he’ll reveal that part of him after locking Grindy up?
Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald will be released in the US on November 16, 2018.
