Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer: Same Song, Different Feeling
We are fortunate indeed, friends! Earlier today Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn shared the first teaser trailer for the film. It uses the same song – “Hooked on a Feeling” – that the first movie used for the trailer, but it gives off a very different feel.
I think it’s the low volume of the song for the first half of the trailer, almost muffled at times, that gives it a more ominous vibe than it did in the trailer for the first movie. The trailers for volume 1 focused on the humor and used the song at the end as a punch to emphasize it; how out of place this song from the 1970s was, in a movie that takes place entirely in outer space. This time around, however, the song is played over most of the teaser, but the humor doesn’t come out until the end. Of course, we already know that Guardians of the Galaxy is a funny movie, but I feel like this teaser showcases that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is not just going to be fun and games.
We learn a few things in this trailer. A conversation between Drax and Quill indicates that a Quill/Gamora romance is still on the table but may not be as cut and dried as it appeared in the first movie; this scene does double duty in showing a softer side of Drax the Destroyer as well.
There’s a scene with Rocket and Yondu, which confirms what James Gunn said about the team’s roster changing. We know that the plot of the second movie revolves around Quill’s father, aka Ego the Living Planet, and considering how the first movie ended we know that Yondu probably works for Ego, so it makes sense that Yondu would join the team.
We see a brief shot of Nebula, and I’m crossing my fingers for a showdown between her and Gamora that is way more satisfying than what we got in the first movie. I’d love it if both of these characters could be fleshed out a little bit more, as they’re really the only women in this film.
We also get a glimpse of Baby Groot! Look at him in his little space suit!

If you’ve got any theories, let us know! I love to speculate, and it’s a long time until May 5, 2017!
