An exclusive from Deadline, Halle Berry and Djimon Hounsou will work together in an upcoming thriller titled Red Card. The Africa-set movie will be directed by Joel Souza from a screenplay by George Gallo (Bad Boys) and Nick Vallelonga (Green Book).

Oscar winner Halle Berry has another exciting project added to her filmography. I’m already hyped about Red Card, which has been described as an Africa-set trafficking thriller that will have the protagonists travel through the “rolling grasslands” of Kenya’s Maasai Mara to the Moroccan port city of Casablanca.

The story is based on real events in Africa and is by Ava Roosevelt, Robert Menzies, and Michael J. Hershman. The screenplay being written by Gallo and Vallelonga does add a whole lot of weight to the project, in my opinion.

Two-time Oscar nominee Hounsou will play the role of Max Elmi. He’s a veteran ranger battling poachers in Kenya. Max will see himself teaming up with Dane Harris (casting is underway). Berry will play the role of Amanda Bruckner, the FBI supervisor who leads the team that special agent Dane is part of. The team deals with international law enforcement to fight trafficking rings.

Max finds himself doing whatever he can to search for his son, who disappears into the North African criminal underground after falling prey to a shady sports agent. Dane will be faced with deciding how far he’s willing to go to help Max and stop the dangerous criminals.

As reported by Deadline, Red Card has been endorsed by the National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children and backed by the Soloviev Foundation.

Though the two leads do seem to be Max and Dane, I have my fingers crossed that Berry has a substantial role in the film. I want her character to be the female lead instead of serving a supporting or minor role.

Filming is set for the fourth quarter of 2025. If everything goes as planned, I do expect to see Red Card sometime in 2026. Berry also has an action-thriller Crime 101, alongside Chris Hemsworth, set for a February 13, 2026, release date. So, yay to having two movies with Berry in them next year.

Along with Berry and Hemsworth, Crime 101 also includes Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan. An adaptation of the novella Crime 101 by Don Winslow, the movie has been directed by Bart Layton (The Imposter, American Animals), who co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Straughan.

The novella deals with a string of unsolved high-level jewel heists up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. While the police think the Colombian Cartel is behind the thefts, Detective Lou Lubesnick (Ruffalo) thinks it’s the handiwork of one man named Davis (Hemsworth) who follows a strict set of rules called… You guessed it… Crime 101.

If I were to assume, I think Berry is playing the role of Sharon, an insurance broker who (and again, I’m assuming here), aids Davis with storing and selling his loot.

Berry also has Maude vs Maude with Angelina Jolie on her list of upcoming projects. However, with the movie being announced back in 2023, there’s been no news about it since. And that’s a bit concerning.

Anyway, back to the current project, are you excited about Red Card?

Let us know.

PS. There’s a joke in my mind about how Berry’s character from Kidnap (2017) went from saving her kid and others to leading a team to find missing people internationally.
