Oscar Winners Halle Berry And Angelina Jolie To Fight It Out In “Maude v Maude”
Oscar winners Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie are ready to deliver the action in Mother v Mother… I mean, Maude v Maude! The details aren’t being shared, but apparently, this particular movie package saw a hot bidding war in Hollywood.
As Deadline exclusively reported, Maude v Maude experienced an intense multi-studio bidding war, with Warner Bros winning the package starring Berry and Jolie. The film is being described as a “Bond vs. Bourne”-esque global thriller and I’m here for it. Berry and Jolie have impressive resumes when it comes to action flicks. I can’t wait to see the two icons share the big screen together!
The movie will be directed by Roseanne Liang from a script by Scott Mosier. Berry and Jolie will also produce the project. Berry will produce alongside her producing partner Holly Jeter under their banner HalleHolly. Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth will produce through RK Films. Mosier and Liang will serve as executive producers.
The current movie package entered the market last week, with the bidding wrapping up over the weekend. According to Deadline, Warner Bros (under co-heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy) became quite aggressive to win it, putting forth an eight-figure bid, a move expected by streaming giants such as Netflix or Apple.
While fans will need to wait for more development, at least, the actresses are staying busy. Berry is ready to start filming a thriller movie called Never Let Go for Lionsgate. Previously titled Mother Land, from what I know, the story is about a family that has been haunted by some kind of evil spirit for years. However, things change when one of the kids questions if the evil is even real. Apparently, it is set in a secluded forest with Berry’s character trying hard to protect her kids.
I’m also looking forward to Netflix announcing a release date for Berry’s sci-fi movie The Mothership. This particular movie will have Berry’s character Sara Morse trying to uncover the mystery behind her husband’s mysterious disappearance from their rural farm after she discovers an extraterrestrial object under her home. Sara will be accompanied by her two small kids as they race to find their loved one.
I really hope The Mothership comes out this year. I need to watch a new Berry movie ASAP!
As for Jolie, she recently directed Without Blood starring Demian Bichir and Salma Hayek. Her next role will see her starring in a biopic about opera singer Maria Callas. Maria will be directed by Pablo Larrain.
As for the other talent involved in Maude v Maude, Liang wrote the surprisingly campy Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloë Moretz. Liang also co-created the very well-written TV series Creamerie. So I have faith!
Maude v Maude is Mosier’s first major sale as a writer. He has worked with Kevin Smith to produce Clerks, Mallrats, and Dogma. He also co-wrote and produced Free Birds and co-directed Illumination’s The Grinch (2018).
So, yeah, the creatives on Maude v Maude have skills. Here’s to hoping the project delivers because you know the excitement around getting to see Berry and Jolie together is high AF!
