Halle Berry Battles a Cultish Self-Help Guru In New Thriller ‘The Process’
Announced by Deadline, Oscar-winner Halle Berry will star and produce an upcoming psychological thriller called The Process. The movie will have Berry’s character fight a self-help guru and his cult.
Berry keeps on working and I’m here for it. Frankly, as far as my opinion goes, I would like Berry to release one movie per year if not two. I also want her to go back to doing more TV stuff as well. I’m surprised that Netflix hasn’t signed her on to lead a miniseries or something. I really want to see her headline a comedy project.
Anyway, talking about the latest thriller that Berry will produce and star in, The Process is about a married couple, Krisa and Peter, who attend a weekend seminar by a self-help guru named Aiden. The seminar asks the couple to reexamine their lives. However, when Krisa resists Aiden’s so-called teachings but Peter buys into the cult mentality, Krisa has no choice but to face Aiden and his cult to save her marriage and sanity.
Penned by Omer Levin Menekse, the script originally appeared on the Black List. So, you know it’s going to be good. Menekse co-wrote and produced the Oscar-nominated short film Please Hold.
The Process will be directed by Tara Miele, who recently worked on Lessons in Chemistry starring Oscar-winner Brie Larson.
On the production side, Berry will produce the project with her producing partner Holly Jeter via their banner HalleHolly. Robert Kravis and Karl Herrmann will also produce through their banner Pioneer Pictures. Julia Sandberg Hansson is also a producer.
The international sales will be launched by FilmNation Entertainment at AFM with Verve Ventures and WME Independent co-repping North American rights.
And for those wondering how Berry could sign projects during the current SAG-AFTRA strike, take note, she was attached as the lead prior to said strike.
“We are thrilled to be working with HalleHolly to bring Levin’s amazing screenplay to the screen. Tara’s vision for the film—a Kubrickian psychological thriller taking us down the rabbit hole of self-help cults, and Halle’s interpretation of the film’s lead character, Kirsa—a woman fighting to preserve her marriage and her sanity amid an oppressive cult of personality, will leave audiences breathless,” shared Kravis and Herrmann.
While fans wait for The Process, Berry has two films making their way to Netflix. The action flick The Union stars her and Mark Wahlberg. And The Mothership is a sci-fi thriller where Berry’s character tries to find her missing husband. I have no idea why both titles still don’t have a release date from Netflix, considering they ended shooting a while ago.
I guess the streamer might be waiting to see how the current SAG-AFTRA strike pans out so it can have the main cast available for promotional rounds. Hmm.
She also has another thriller titled Never Let Go awaiting release.
A spy vs spy project co-starring Berry and Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie, titled Maude vs Maude, was also announced in April of this year.
Berry is also rumored to reprise her role as the X-Men Storm for Deadpool 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars.
What are your thoughts about The Process? What type of films would you like to see Berry in?
