It’s official, Wildcats! High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will air its fourth and final season come August 9, 2023. The upcoming season will mark the return of even more characters from the OG film series.

The current announcement was accompanied by a trailer and key art for the show’s fourth and final season. Personally, I wanted this series to last for at least five seasons, especially after the cast changes in the third outing. But, alas, it is what it is.

Fans of the original iconic High School Musical film series will be glad to know that the fourth season will welcome back Corbin Bleu as Chad Danforth, Monique Coleman as Taylor McKessie, Lucas Garbeel as Ryan Evans, Bart Johnson as Coach Jack Bolton, Alyson Reed as Ms. Darbus, and Kaycee Stroh and Martha Cox.

I get that the fandom wanted Zac Efron as Troy Bolton, Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montez, and Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay Evans, too. And while the return of those three actors isn’t confirmed, I have my fingers crossed for some kind of cameo. We will find out soon enough.

The fourth season will consist of eight episodes. And from what I can tell, the good news is that fans will be able to binge-watch because the entire fourth installment will drop on Disney+ on August 9, 2023.

The premise involves the Wildcats returning to East High to prepare a stage production of “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”. However, plans are disrupted when Disney announces “High School Musical 4: The Reunion”. The highly-anticipated movie will be shot on location at East High. I love the meta-ness of it all!

The cast of the upcoming season includes Joshua Bassett, Sofia Wylie, Dara Renee, Julia Lester, Frankie Rodriguez, Kate Reinders, Liamani Segura, Kylie Cantrall, Matthew Sato, Caitlin Reilly, Vashty Momopoint, Mark St. Cyr, Matt Cornett, Larry Saperstein, Joe Serafini, Adiran Lyles, Saylor Bell Curda.

Debuting back in November 2019, HSMTMTS went on to do a lot as far as queer representation in live-action Disney content is concerned. The show has aired a total of 30 episodes over the course of three seasons and there’s a handful of queer characters in the cast.

For those interested, you can watch my coverage of HSMTMTS over on The Geekiary YouTube channel.

Even though it’s the end, I’m excited to see what HSMTMTS season 4 has in store for fans. And yes, I plan to cover the fourth and final season on YouTube, too.

Are you looking forward to the series finale?
