Hop in the Pro-Bending Arena with This Legend of Korra Kickstarter
I am the Queen of Learning Things Late, so I only just found out about IDW’s crowd-funding campaign to make a tabletop Legend of Korra game that will put players in the pro-bending arena.
The Legend of Korra: Pro-Bending Arena Kickstarter launched last week and is already fully funded, more than quintupling its original $25,000 goal; every day since has seen new items get added to the base pledge package. (IDW repeatedly declares that these are not stretch goals – no matter how much money the Kickstarter generates, these extras will be added to your box.) There is still a week left in the campaign if you’re interested in becoming a backer and grabbing all of these goodies for yourself. While the game is slated to hit stores sometime this fall, the deluxe edition items are only available through Kickstarter (though the Retail Bundle indicates that some of you may stumble across this version in your local shop), so you don’t want to miss out!
THE LEGEND OF KORRA: PRO-BENDING ARENA is a board game set in the Avatar universe from Nickelodeon’s global smash hit Avatar: The Legend of Korra. A miniatures board game designed by Sen Foong-Lim and Jessey Wright, The Legend of Korra: Pro-bending Arena pits 2 players against each other in a sports game that features deep, strategic, head-to-head gameplay, highly detailed and dynamic miniatures, deck crafting and building, and team customization.
The game is set during Book 1 of Legend of Korra, with the two teams representing the Fire Ferrets (aka Korra, Mako, and Bolin) and the Wolfbats (aka Ming, Tanho, and Shaozu). But it seems that part of the extras that are being added every day include other pro-bending teams like the Rabaroos and the Boar-Q-Pines! You can also purchase the “Amon Invasion Expansion Pack” and allow Amon and the Equalists to invade the arena, the same way they did on the show.
Check out the Kickstarter page for helpful instructions and videos that explain how to play the game, but I’m basically sold just by looking at the miniatures. Those are just the coolest things ever. If you’re a fan of Legend of Korra and board games, you’ll probably kick yourself if you don’t pick up the deluxe version. LOOK HOW COOL IT IS.
