Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the R-rated Kraven the Hunter on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD come March 4, 2025. The live-action film has just been released on Digital for those interested.

Kraven the Hunter is the latest entry in Sony’s live-action movie series focusing on characters from the globally popular Spider-Man IP, but without the Web-Head appearing in them. While I understand Sony wanting to create a franchise separate from Peter Parker’s involvement in the main MCU, the fact remains that fans aren’t really into watching stories from the Spider-Man side of Marvel Comics without Peter Parker or other more popular members of the Spider Family.

They seem to have allowed it with the Venom trilogy, which, to be fair, Venom is a popular character in his own right. But when a studio wants people to care enough to spend money in theaters on the likes of Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven without Peter Parker swinging in for a cameo, the dissonance between the fandom and studio heads becomes quite apparent.

Premiering on December 13, 2024, and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kraven the Hunter is the sixth film in Sony’s “But where the heck is Spider-Man?” live-action series and people had clearly had enough. Produced on a reported budget of approximately $130 million, the movie went on to gross an estimated $59 million at the global box office. In contrast, the universally panned Madame Web from February 2024 collected around $100 million worldwide.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Bringing up the box office numbers doesn’t mean I think Kraven the Hunter is a bad film. I know of Marvel fans who consider it to be a serviceable comic book movie. The current Rotten Tomatoes score sits at 74% from the Audience. I personally feel that Kraven the Hunter is watchable. It’s definitely better than Madame Web.

The reason I brought up the numbers was to showcase that the global audience just isn’t into being served Spider-Man-less movies. The plan to expand the Spider-Man universe without the iconic character was flawed from the start. Sony could still (kind of) salvage the franchise by involving Andrew Garfield as the version of Spider-Man to appear in said series, but I doubt they will do so.

Anyway, coming back to Kraven the Hunter being a watchable R-rated action flick, it is available right now on Digital.

As for the home release, you can collect it on Blu-ray, 4K UHD, and DVD on March 4, 2025.

The 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and Digital Extras include:

  • Deleted & Extended Scenes
  • Becoming Kraven
  • Beast Mode: The Stunts of the Hunt
  • Outtakes & Bloopers
  • Kraven’s First Hunt: The Direction
  • Allies & Antagonists: The Killer Cast

The DVD release will only come with Outtakes & Bloopers, Kraven’s First Hunt: The Direction, and the Allies & Antagonists: The Killer Cast extra content.

Take note; the Blu-ray and DVD offerings will include a Digital code for the movie redeemable via Movies Anywhere.

Kraven the Hunter has been directed by J.C. Chandor from a screenplay by Richard Wenk and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway. Wenk is also credited for the Story.

Along with Taylor-Johnson, the cast also includes Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, and Russell Crowe.

It has an approximate Running Time of 127 minutes (which I think could have been trimmed). The movie is Rated R for strong bloody violence and language.
