“New Mutants” Will Reportedly Fight Demon Bear in Upcoming Film!
If a recent report is to be believed then the New Mutants, the upcoming X-Men film series spin-off, will star actor Nat Wolff as Samuel Guthrie/Cannonball. The main villain has also been revealed.
According to ComingSoon, sources close to the project’s production have revealed that Nat Wolff is being eyed for the role of Samuel Guthrie. Sam is a mutant who goes by the name Cannonball. He has the mutant power to fly at jet speeds. An impenetrable force field surrounds his body while flying. He’s also one of the original members of the New Mutants. In Marvel Comic Book canon he’s currently part of the New Avengers being led by another original New Mutants member, Roberto da Costa/Sunspot.
20th Century Fox is aiming for a spring 2018 release date for the X-Men spin-off. Furthermore, rumors about Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Anya Taylor-Joy joining the cast as Wolfsbane and Magik respectively are true.
The upcoming New Mutants will have a horror-inspired style. Demon Bear being the main antagonist has reportedly been confirmed through a storyboard animatic. Demon Bear is a giant (you guessed it!) bear that feeds on negative emotions for power. The formidable being is able to corrupt souls and teleport as well.
Check out the animatic!
You can clearly see some of the New Mutants fighting Demon Bear. The scene includes Wolfsbane, Cannonball, and Danielle Moonstar/Mirage. With Mirage being part of the film having Demon Bear as the villain makes sense because it has ties to her family. The girl holding the soulsword is clearly Magik, but what is Lockheed doing with her? Lockheed is Shadowcat’s pet dragon, so is it a hint that Kitty might make an appearance? Having Ellen Page reprise her role as the phasing-mutant will help to tie the spin-off with the main X-Men franchise.
