New ‘Penny Dreadful’ Trailer is Dark and Full of Terrors

Penny Dreadful

It is almost here! Penny Dreadful season three premieres in less than a month and we received a brand new trailer to whet our appetites. And great news: it is DARK.

Of course, Penny Dreadful is one of the most terrifying shows on television, but this trailer gives us glimpse into what it is ahead for our Dreadfuls this season. No longer are they safe in a large group in London, but on the heels of last season’s finale, all our favorites are scattered all over the globe and have new dangers to fight.

While it appears that at least Lily and Dorian along with Victor are still in London, Ethan is definitely in America. I am so excited to see new series regular Wes Studi as Kaetenay interacting with Ethan in the trailer, and it looks like we will get some Native American mythology in his story. Patti LuPone, who guest starred in season two as the Cut-Wife, was promoted to series regular in season three, and although she plays a completely different character, it is probably safe to say that there will be some sort of relationship between her former character and her new Dr. Seward. After all, Dr. Seward is treating Vanessa, who once again appears to get the short end of the stick with her “inner demons.”

Here is the trailer in all its glory:

From a purely superficial standpoint, everyone looks good in this trailer. Vanessa goes back and forth from being closed off in an asylum to looking amazing on the street. And, of course, she has a new and terrifying villain after her again. Word is that we will also get some new characters from the Dracula universe mixed in with this season. Unfortunately, we did not get to see much John Clare, and since he is one of my favorite characters, that does sadden me a bit. I also want to know more about where Malcolm is and what he is up to! Then again, this is just a trailer, so hopefully we will get some great stories in season three!

Penny Dreadful season three premieres May 1, 2016 on Showtime.
