ReedPop Announces NYCC 2021 Ticket Sales (Finally)
Ever since ReedPop announced its intention to bring New York Comic Con back for an in-person event in 2021, fans have been eagerly awaiting news about ticket sales. Today, ReedPop revealed that NYCC 2021 tickets will go in sale in July – with some caveats.
In an attempt to limit the numbers due to the pandemic, NYCC 2021 tickets will only be available for two groups of people – people who were Fan Verified in 2019 (the year of the last in-person convention) and people who buy the “Superfan Membership”, which launches around the ticket sale date. They have also temporarily gotten rid of the 4-day badge type and are offering only single-day tickets ($60 each).
On Friday June 11, 2021, those who have existing Fan Verification accounts will receive an email from Showclix asking to confirm or update your information for 2021. If you fail to do so, your account will automatically roll over using the info from 2019, so if you have moved in the past two years, it is important to update your address with Showclix.
On Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 10am EDT, NYCC 2021 tickets go on sale only for people who were Fan Verified in 2019. However, those who are eligible for the sale are able to purchase tickets for others who were not Fan Verified in 2019. In previous years, fans have been able to purchase up to four (4) badges of each type. There is as of yet no indication that this amount has changed.
Now, the Metaverse Membership is something different that ReedPop is starting up this year.
Launching in late June, NYCC fans will be able to sign up for a Metaverse Membership that gives you first access to NYCC badges, photo ops & autographing tickets, and paid digital experiences; exclusive access to video content and celebrity panels; an exclusive enamel membership pin and access to exclusive NYCC merchandise online.
Anyone is able to purchase a Metaverse Membership, and those who purchase the Superfan tier, at $99 a year, will have first access to NYCC 2021 tickets (maximum of 2 per badge type) with a pre-sale that lasts from the launch of memberships (date not specified) until Thursday, July 8, at 11:59 EDT.
This…does not sound like keeping numbers down, ReedPop, if literally anyone can purchase a Metaverse Membership. This is also quite the slap in the face to annual attendees, as normally being Fan Verified the previous year is what made one eligible for the ticket pre-sale.
Press and professional badges will still be available, with information to come soon, so make sure to keep an eye on social media for announcements.
Also, while last year’s digital Metaverse event was free (with a few exceptions), it looks as though this year’s virtual content will cost money, with the NYCC Twitter confirming that a lower-priced ticket ($20) will be available. This will include access to live video panels streamed during the event for most major panel rooms, audio streams for smaller rooms, and VOD access to the recordings for 30 days after the event, as well as access to NYCC exclusive merchandise online.
What do you think of this news? Will you be purchasing a membership?
