Sex-Positive Feminist Comedy Series “Minx” Gets Season Two Renewal
As someone who enjoyed watching the 10-episode long season one of Minx, I’m glad to learn that HBO Max has renewed the queer-inclusive and sex-positive feminist comedy series for a season 2.
Minx stars Ophelia Lovibond, Jake Johnson, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya. The premise follows Joyce Prigger (Lovibond) trying to find the support to launch her feminist magazine only to have low-rent erotica publisher Doug Renetti (Johnson) giving her a chance in the 1970s.
The first season had Joyce and Doug, both very ambitious individuals, figuring out a way to work together to create the first erotic magazine aimed at women while also offering content that helps women think about the importance of equal rights and a better future for everyone.
Due to the nature of the show, be ready for a lot of frontal nudity (some fake, of course). I get that onscreen nudity isn’t for everyone, however, in my opinion, the nudity in Minx is usually played for laughs or done for artistic reasons. So, do consider not letting the amount of skin shown in Minx prevent you from experiencing some fun and thoughtful storytelling. Give it a chance.
Here’s the trailer!
As for the queer representation, the main cast includes Oscar Montoya as Richie, a gay photographer who works for Doug. There’s also Jessica Lowe as Bambi, Doug’s cover model, and Lennon Parham as Shelly, Joyce’s sister. From what I could tell, Bambi and Shelly are supposed to be bisexual. The second season of Minx is very likely to explore the feelings Bambi and Shelly have for each other.
Creator and showrunner Ellen Rapoport shared, “All of us at Minx have been blown away by the passionate response from audiences across the world, who have mashed-up, TikTok-ed and fanfic-ed us into a renewal. We are so grateful to our partners at HBO Max and Lionsgate for being true champions of the show, and for the opportunity to continue on this journey. Here’s to more chest hair, pussy bow blouses, and tasteful nudes in Season 2.”
Minx season 1 debuted on HBO Max on March 17, 2022. Episodes 9 and 10 were released on April 14, 2022. The episodes are approximately half an hour each. I highly recommend you consider binge-watching this show.
And here’s my reaction and review video for the premiere episode!
