Spider-Man 3 to Unite Tom Holland with Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield & More!

The upcoming Spider-Man 3 film is going to be a dimension-colliding action fest for fans. If everything works out, you can expect characters from previous Spider-Man movies to join Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Let’s go over what we know, as well as some of the rumors.

This article contains rumors and reports that could spoil future events in the MCU. Do proceed with caution.

Over the past few months, the Spider-Man fandom has been hearing certain rumors and assumptions floating around about Kevin Feige and Sony wanting to do something big for the upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie. With alternate timelines being part of the MCU, the current plans do make sense.

Spider-Man: Far From Home brought back actor J. K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson. Then we got the report about Jamie Foxx playing a different version of Electro for Spider-Man 3. News about Alfred Molina coming back as Doctor Octopus was confirmed yesterday. Of course, fans have been hoping to see the previous versions of the friendly neighborhood webslinger, too. And it turns out they just might get their wish.

According to Collider, Andrew Garfield will be coming back as Peter Parker along with Kristen Dunst as Mary Jane. Emma Stone (who is pregnant in real life) is likely to reprise her role as Gwen Stacey. You just know the fandom is going to cry when Andrew’s Peter will meet Gwen (who is likely from another dimension).

As far as Tobey Maguire is concerned, apparently, he’s yet to sign the deal. YouTuber and movie critic/reporter Grace Randolph (who’s been on top of the current casting news for months) has shared that Maguire’s interested in having more than just a cameo in Spider-Man 3.

Apparently, Maguire wants to showcase his acting chops in scenes where he gets to take off his Spidey mask. He would also like to be part of Dr. Strange 2: Multiverse of Madness (more on that in a bit).

Now, there are fans who feel like the upcoming film is too crowded. To them, I’ll say that Avengers: Endgame had a larger cast and everything worked out. So, have some faith in the well-oiled machine that is the MCU. I can’t wait to see Holland and Zendaya act with such a fandom-hyping cast.

Currently filming, Spider-Man 3 is aiming for a December 17, 2021, theatrical release.

Coming back to Dr. Strange 2, Benedict Cumberbatch is also said to have a cameo in SM 3. Apparently, according to Randolph, this is a 3-part story. The first chapter will be the upcoming WandaVision series on Disney Plus (set to release on January 15, 2021). The events of that series will impact what happens in SM 3, hence a lot of the past actors from the Spider-Man franchise coming back.

The finale will occur in Dr. Strange 2. Again the report that Maguire wants to stick around for the finale because it will reteam him with Sam Raimi (the director of Dr. Strange 2) does sound true.

Apparently, other versions of The Avengers might also appear in Dr. Strange 2 with the team being made of actors who were very close to being cast as the actual Avengers in the MCU. If this turns out to be valid, Tom Cruise will be Tony Stark with Emily Blunt as the Black Widow.

There are also rumors that the Spidey villains (from different dimensions) could find a way to stick around in the dimension that has Holland as Peter Parker to kick off an official Sinister Six film from Sony.

We know the studio’s also working on a Spider-Woman film. At this point, I’m just waiting for Sony to bring the highly-popular Miles Morales into the live-action world.

Other than that, there’s also this interesting piece of news tweeted today for fans of Netflix’s Daredevil show!

Could Charlie Cox coming back as Daredevil mean that Feige might end up bringing back certain cast members from Fox’s X-Men film franchise into the MCU? We know Ryan Reynolds is still Deadpool. I wouldn’t be against Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy still playing Magneto and Professor X, respectively.

On a side note, considering the current MCU/Sony Spider-Man films have the word “Home” in their titles, I wonder what the third movie will be called. Perhaps Home Dimension? Home Party? No Dimension Like Home? I don’t know.
