Star Wars Celebration 2025: The Announcements We Are Most Excited About

As the dust settles and the attendees begin to return home from Tokyo, let’s examine some of this year’s Star Wars Celebration announcements.

Movies

Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jon Favreau, as well as the true star of Star Wars, Grogu, showed a trailer and some behind-the-scenes photos of the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie coming in May 2026. There are some bootleg videos of the trailer on the internet, but I will wait to watch it when it is officially released to the rest of the world. However, I did see Sigourney Weaver in an X-Wing pilot suit! My excitement for the movie was already off the charts, and now… Come on, May 2026! Get here faster.

Shawn Levy took to the stage as well to announce that his upcoming movie, titled Star Wars: Starfighter, will begin to film this fall. He confirmed the internet rumor that Ryan Gosling was set to star. They showed a picture of Ryan’s childhood bed with his Empire Strikes Back sheets. So, to say Ryan is excited to be part of the galaxy far, far away would be an understatement. Starfighter is set to release in May 2027.

Kathleen Kennedy also confirmed that the Simon Kinsberg trilogy, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey movie, and Taika Waititi and James Mangold’s movie are all still in development. This makes me happy. I like all of these filmmakers, and getting even the smallest confirmation that their films are still in the works is good to hear.

Disney+ Live Action Shows

Andor starts April 22nd, so many of the cast were there for a full panel to talk about the show and to tell some behind-the-scenes stories. I’m excited for this finale season, even if they are giving us pretty much a movie a week for a full month.

Ahsoka season 2 also had a panel with Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, and Rosario Dawson. Filming will begin this week. Not much information was given out; however, Filoni did say we are getting Admiral Ackbar versus Admiral Thrawn because, as they stated in the panel, “It is called Star WARS!” Hayden Christensen also joined them on stage to announce that Anakin Skywalker will be returning for the second season. Which surprised no one if you watched the first season.

Animated Series

During the celebration of 20 years of Star Wars animation, it was announced that the newest animated series, Star Wars – Maul: Shadow Lord, will be released next year on Disney+. Sam Witwer will be returning to voice Maul and was one of the people who helped work on the series. This was not on my bingo card for Celebration announcements, but a pleasant one. Anytime we can get Sam back into the Star Wars universe, we will take it.

Season 3 of Young Jedi Adventures and Visions were also announced. I’ve enjoyed the Visions episodes in the first two seasons. Watching animation studios from around the world show their take on the lessons of Star Wars has been awesome. Three of the original shorts, “The Duel”, “The Ninth Jedi”, and “The Bride”, will be getting follow-ups.

Young Jedi Adventures is cute and made for a much younger audience than me. One of the things I love about Star Wars is the giant buffet of different stories and entry points. There is something for the youngest of fans to the oldest. And even if Young Jedi Adventures isn’t for me, I’m elated that it exists.

On the animation adjacent side, Star Wars Lego: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past will be coming to Disney+ on September 19th of this year. Ashley Eckstein will return to voice Ahsoka Tano, and Ahmed Best will voice Darth Jar Jar!

I’m so in for Darth Jar Jar! And like having Sam Witwer returning to the galaxy, whenever we can get Ashley and Ahmed to come back, we fans are beyond happy.

Video Games

An expansion of Star Wars: Outlaws will be coming soon, where you are working with and for Hondo Ohaka. Umm… Yes please!

A new turn-based game is also being released in 2026 called Star Wars: Zero Company. The upcoming single-player turn-based tactics game coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S will put you in command during the Clone Wars. Turn-based games aren’t my kind of games, however, I am more willing to give it a try because it’s Star Wars.

On May 2nd of this year, the newest collaboration between Fortnite and Star Wars will drop. During the 5-week event, Emperor Palpatine, Darth Jar Jar, and many others will appear in the game. You will also be able to purchase the Mace Windu skin in the shop. Each week, new quests and maps will bring the Galaxy into Fortnite. As a regular player of Fortnite, I will be spending way too much time making sure I complete every quest so I can get all the extras.

Everything Else

The second season of Light and Magic, the docu-series about Industrial Light and Magic, got a full trailer and is currently available on Disney+. The first season was one of my favorite docu-series ever, so as soon as I’m done with my Andor season 1 rewatch, I will be getting into this.

As always, new toys, books, and comics were announced. Most of them didn’t move the nettle for me. The “Art of…” books are always cool. Hasbro dropped some new Black Series figures, most notably the Cal Keatis ‘Mullet Edition’. If you’ve played Jedi: Survivor, you know how customizable Cal is in the game. Many who played the game made a ‘hilly billy’ version of Cal, and Hasbro jumped at the chance to make it. Not for me, but I love that it’s going to be available for those who want one.

The last big announcement came at the closing ceremonies. Star Wars Celebration 2027 will take place in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Convention Center, April 1st through the 4th. This makes me the happiest of all the announcements. Having gone to Celebration Anaheim in 2022 and missing the last two in London and Tokyo, I have felt a little disconnected from the event. Time differences, not feeling the buzz of being in the building, and life in general have made the experience feel a little less being so far away.

Having one of the largest and, for me, most important conventions be less than a 2-hour flight from my home means we are going. AND, it will be the weekend before my birthday in 2027.

May of 2027 will mark the 50th anniversary of A New Hope (Star Wars for us more experienced people). There will be tons of different events around the 50th anniversary, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a showing of the film in Crypto.com Arena, which is directly across the street from the convention center.

Overall, this was a middle-of-the-road Celebration announcement-wise. The biggest, for me, was the film dates and the Ahsoka series beginning its filming this week. I feel they are keeping some stuff in reserve for San Diego Comic-Con or waiting until 2027 to give us a full blitzkrieg of new shows and films. BUT, seeing all the love those who did attend made my heart happy. 125 different countries were represented at Celebration this year, showing how beloved this franchise is across the globe. And I can’t wait to stand shoulder to shoulder with all of those fans in Los Angeles in 2027.

I’d rather find the things that I like about a story, movie, or tv show, than lead with negativity. I love Star Wars, Doctor Who, MCU, comic book and conventions.
