Storm Gets Wakandan Armor Just In Time for “X-Manhunt” Crossover This March

The current Storm solo series by writer Murewa Ayodele and artist Lucas Werneck continues to amp things up. Storm issue 6, debuting this March, will have the Omege-level Mutant Goddess wear new armor accompanied by a new weapon.
Storm’s vibranium armor has been designed by guest artist Luciano Vecchio. Serving as a tie-in to the ‘X-Manhunt’ crossover, Ororo Munroe will wear said armor while facing off against her fellow X-Men as certain mutants butt heads over how to deal with Charles Xavier. According to the promo material, Storm will be shown tapping “into new cosmic power to defend Professor X.”
I’m interested in seeing why Ororo will decide to protect Charles in such a manner. The two didn’t part ways on a friendly note during their last encounter where Charles tried to psychically force himself into Storm’s mind because he couldn’t take no for an answer. But I assume that with Charles finding himself in Storm Sanctuary, Ororo will have to protect him, even if they still have some personal issues to iron out. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to learning how Ayodele will handle the situation between them.
As for the cool-looking armor, according to Vecchio, the inspiration for it to be vibranium armor mainly came from Ororo’s time as Queen of Wakanda. The outfit uses a Dora Milaje base design while sticking with the motif of Ororo’s crown. There are also some Marvel Rivals vibes, with bulky accents.
Even though Storm is an Omega-Level Mutant Goddess, her body isn’t the most durable. So, it’s nice to see her having armor on hand depending on the type of threat she will need to face. To be fair, Storm issue 4 had her tap into her Eternal Storm form. However, from a storytelling perspective, having her turn into Eternal Storm every time she required a durability boost would lessen the impact of seeing her as Eternal Storm.
I personally want to see a scene where Storm covered her body with highly compressed air or something to block an attack, similar to how Sue Storm/Invisible Woman covered her body with a thin invisible shield during her solo run. But let’s see what happens.
Marvel Comics also released a trailer for ‘X-Manhunt’ showing the X-Men fighting each other. There are a couple of panels with Cyclops unleashing his ocular energy beam against Storm in her new armor. I mean, there’s no chance of Scott ever winning against someone like Ororo, but I’m still excited to see how their confrontation will pan out.
The Shi’ar Empire will also get involved. Xandra is Charles’ daughter after all. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Charles being taken under Shi’ar Empire custody or protection at the end of ‘X-Manhunt’.
The crossover will unfold in the pages of Uncanny X-Men, Nyx, Storm, X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, and Exceptional X-Men. The conclusion will be delivered via a double-sized finale one-shot titled X-Manhunt Omega.
“We’ve mostly been keeping the various groups of X-characters separated from one another as we set up the post-Krakoa landscape,” shared Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “But it feels like now is the right time to send them crashing into one another. And who better to instigate this situation than the disgraced Professor X, who has intimate connections with almost all of our key players?”
Here’s the trailer!
Coming back to the Storm solo, the titles for upcoming issues were also revealed. Things are going to continue to get dangerous for Earth’s Mightiest Mutant. I’m all hyped up about the Storm Gods making an appearance soon come issue 7 in April of this year.
“A Thunder War Brews” and the Storm fandom is eating good!
