The Extended “Resident Evil: Death Island” Trailer Is Everything I Wanted!

I don’t care if the actual story ends up being weak, but the official extended trailer for the upcoming CG movie Resident Evil: Death Island has me hyped. The entire crew is back, and I feel sorry for any BOW that tries to go up against them!

The latest trailer has confirmed that, yes, everyone is coming back to face the latest threat in Resident Evil: Death Island. The cast includes Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Rebecca Chambers. Fans have never seen the entire cast together in the video game series (yet!). So, I will take what I can get!

Let’s go over the story points I could understand from watching the trailer. The latest promo opened with Rebecca telling Chris about how Jill felt guilty about the things she did after being brainwashed by Albert Wesker (during the events of Resident Evil 5). Even though no one blamed Jill for what Wesker made her do, she still blamed herself for attacking her friends and was trying hard to make up for her past.

As for Leon, he’s tasked with rescuing someone named Dr. Antonio Taylor. While that is happening, Claire’s work with TerraSave leads her to an Orca carcass on the beach. The bite on the Orca had a strain of T-virus in it. So, of course, she takes the intel to Chris, Jill, and Rebecca. Looks like Chris had also been investigating an outbreak in San Francisco. From there, Rebecca notices a link between the people that were infected. Turns out, they all visited Alcatraz Island.

So, Chris (in a very queer-vibe shirt, ha!), Jill, and Claire make their way to the island to see what’s happening. Also, the man (named Dylan) who is behind the new outbreak seems to be connected to Antonio’s kidnapping, and that’s how Leon gets involved. Not only that, but Rebecca also arrives at Alcatraz with reinforcements after she learns that someone stole information about her teammates. Basically, all of the main characters get together for the finale, and I’m here for every second of it!

Even though none of the co-leads will die, I still liked how the trailer tried to amp up the stakes. The new zombies are faster and more vicious. Plus, it looks like people can turn without being bitten by a zombie. There’s a zombie shark involved, and we also have Lickers that can swim underwater.

And, from what I could tell, Dylan seemed to be involved in the events that took place decades ago in Raccoon City, and he is out for revenge.

Here’s the trailer! And yes, that’s Claire being extra while dodging an enemy attack! I love her!

Serving as a sequel to Resident Evil: Vendetta, Resident Evil: Death Island will have a theatrical release come July 7, 2023, in Japan. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release the film worldwide, except for Japan.

Having mentioned RE: Vendetta, I really liked seeing Rebecca having a more active role in RE: Death Island, especially after how she was treated in RE: Vendetta. I understand that Rebecca, as a character, is not a “fighter” in the way that Claire and Jill are. However, she is more than capable enough to stand alongside her RE peers. And the trailer for RE: Death Island showed that quite well.

Are you excited about the iconic RE characters finally teaming up in such a manner to save the world?

I sure am!
