The nominations for the upcoming 2024 Emmy Awards have been announced. The Gilded Age, True Detective: Night Country, Fellow Travelers, and more queer-inclusive content got recognized.

The 2024 Emmy Awards (the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards) will be held live come September 15, 2024, on ABC. A host has not been announced as of yet.

The Creative Arts ceremonies, where a majority of the Emmy trophies are given out, will occur on September 7 and September 8, 2024.

For those wondering why Interview with the Vampire wasn’t nominated, well, the eligibility spanned from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2024.

So, fingers crossed Interview with the Vampire gets recognized during the next award ceremony. The creative team and the rest of the cast deserve to get their flowers.

Anyway, let’s go over some of the animations for the Emmys 2024 along with my opinions!

A full list of nominees is available on Emmys.com.

Best Drama Series

  • The Crown (Netflix)
  • Fallout (Prime Video)
  • The Gilded Age (HBO)
  • The Morning Show (Apple TV+)
  • Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Prime Video)
  • Shogun (FX)
  • Slow Horses (Apple TV+)
  • 3 Body Problem (Netflix)

I’m so happy to see The Gilded Age on the list. The series has been renewed for a third season and I hope it continues to expand its audience. You can read my The Gilded Age coverage here.

I doubt it will win though. I think, and as do many others, the award will go to Shogun.

Best Actress in a Drama Series

  • Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show, Apple)
  • Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age, HBO/Max)
  • Maya Erskine (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Prime Video)
  • Anna Sawai (Shogun, FX)
  • Imelda Staunton (The Crown, Netflix)
  • Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show, Apple)

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sawai wins this one for Shogun.

Best Actor in a Drama Series

  • Idris Elba (Hijack, Apple)
  • Donald Glover (Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Prime Video)
  • Walton Goggins (Fallout, Prime Video)
  • Gary Oldman (Slow Horses, Apple)
  • Hiroyuki Sanada (Shogun, FX)
  • Dominic West (The Crown, Prime Video)

Again, Sanada for Shogun. Considering Sanada’s career history, he deserves to be recognized.

Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

  • Christine Baranski (The Gilded Age, HBO/Max)
  • Nicole Beharie (The Morning Show, Apple TV+)
  • Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown, Netflix)
  • Greta Lee (The Morning Show, Apple TV+)
  • Lesley Manville (The Crown, Netflix)
  • Karen Pittman (The Morning Show, Apple TV+)
  • Holland Taylor (The Morning Show, Apple TV+)

Yay to the continuing The Gilded Age love. I doubt Baranski will win though. The award could very well go to Debicki for The Crown.

Best Comedy Series

  • Abbott Elementary (ABC)
  • The Bear (FX)
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO/Max)
  • Hacks (HBO/Max)
  • Only Murders in the Building (Hulu)
  • Palm Royale (Apple TV+)
  • Reservation Dogs (FX)
  • What We Do in the Shadows (FX)

I think we all know that The Bear is taking this one even though whether or not The Bear should be considered a comedy is a whole other discussion.

I am surprised to see Palm Royale popping up in this particular category. I couldn’t get past the first episode.

Best Limited or Anthology Series

  • Baby Reindeer (Netflix)
  • Fargo (FX)
  • Lessons in Chemistry (Apple TV+)
  • Ripley (Netflix)
  • True Detective: Night Country (HBO/Max)

I would like for True Detective Season 4: Night Country to win (read my coverage). But I wouldn’t be surprised if Baby Reindeer took home the prize.

Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

  • Matt Bomer (Fellow Travelers, Showtime)
  • Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer, Netflix)
  • Jon Hamm (Fargo, FX)
  • Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, FX)
  • Andrew Scott (Ripley, Netflix)

I think this one is between Bomer and Gadd with the odds leaning in Gadd’s favor.

Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

  • Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country, HBO/Max)
  • Brie Larson (Lessons in Chemistry, Apple)
  • Juno Temple (Fargo, FX)
  • Sofía Vergara (Griselda, Netflix)
  • Naomi Watts (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, FX)

Hmmm. I feel like it’s going to be Foster vs. Vergara. I’ll be happy with either talented actress winning.

Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

  • Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers, Showtime)
  • Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer, HBO/Max)
  • Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer, Netflix)
  • John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country, HBO/Max)
  • Lamorne Morris (Fargo, FX)
  • Lewis Pullman (Lessons in Chemistry, Apple TV+)
  • Treat Williams (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, FX)

Yay to Bailey’s star continuing to rise. But Goodman-Hill is likely going to take the win.

Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie

  • Dakota Fanning (Ripley, Netflix)
  • Lily Gladstone (Under the Bridge, Hulu)
  • Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer, Netflix)
  • Aja Naomi King (Lessons in Chemistry, Apple TV+)
  • Diane Lane (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, FX)
  • Nava Mau (Baby Reindeer, Netflix)
  • Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country, HBO/Max)

Kudos to Reis for getting recognized for, from what I can tell, her first-ever actual acting role. And that too opposite the iconic Jodie Foster. But again, I wouldn’t be surprised if Gunning took the win. There’s just something about the way the cast performed in Baby Reindeer.

Best Reality Competition Series

  • The Amazing Race (CBS)
  • RuPaul’s Drag Race (MTV)
  • Top Chef (Bravo)
  • The Traitors (Peacock)
  • The Voice (NBC)

Just give it to RuPaul’s Drag Race and be done with it. You can watch my reaction and review videos for the Drag Race franchise over on The Geekiary YouTube channel.

Outstanding Animated Program

  • Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix)
  • Bob’s Burgers (Disney/Fox)
  • Scavengers Rein (HBO/Max/acquired by Netflix)
  • The Simpsons (Disney/Fox)
  • X-Men ’97 (Disney+)

Though I’m glad for X-Men ’97, when it comes down to it, I think Blue Eye Samurai had more to offer when it came to animated storytelling, even if I wasn’t a fan of certain story elements.

Outstanding television movie

  • Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie (Peacock)
  • Quiz Lady (Hulu)
  • Red, White & Royal Blue (Prime Video)
  • Scoop (Netflix)
  • Unfrosted (Netflix)

The only thing I can say for sure is that Red, White & Royal Blue won’t be winning. Apparantly, there’s a lot of speculation about how Quiz Lady might take home the prize. I mean, I wouldn’t know, I haven’t watched any of the movies on this list except for the one with the queer British Prince and his boyfriend who happens to be the son of the President of the United States.

A sequel is reportedly in development.
