“The Heart Killers” Trailer: My Body Was Not Ready
All the way back in April, I did a trailer rundown of the second half of GMMTV’s 2024 lineup. The show I was most excited for was The Heart Killers. Starring FirstKhao and JoongDunk and directed by Jojo Tichakorn (Only Friends), the story is based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew, but more specifically, the 1999 adaptation Ten Things I Hate About You. Only it’s gay. And they’re assassins. Anyway, the official trailer dropped today and, y’all… My body was not ready.
For those unfamiliar with how the TV industry works in Thailand, this is basically what happens. Every company does an annual presentation where they reveal their upcoming series lineups (much like how American networks hold yearly upfronts). At these presentations, they (usually) will show a trailer for the series. This is mostly to gauge interest (social media numbers are very important) and gain sponsors.
However, these trailers aren’t cut with footage that’s been filmed. Nothing of the show has been filmed yet. These are pilot trailers, filmed specifically for the presentation. So it’s possible that some or even none of the footage in the pilot trailer will end up in the series. Sometimes a pilot trailer is very similar to the official trailer; sometimes it’s completely different.
The Heart Killers is one of those where the vibe is basically the same, yet almost none of the scenes are what we saw before. (I wanted to rewatch the pilot trailer for comparison, but they’ve already privated it. I knew I should have downloaded it immediately. I will mourn that shot of Joong with a bat standing over Dunk handcuffed to a chair for the rest of my life. Blessed be the gifmakers who have preserved that scene on Tumblr.)
The basic premise is this: Brothers Fadel (Joong Archen) and Bison (Khaotung Thanawat) are assassins. Kant (First Kanaphan) is instructed by what I presume to be his boss to get close to them, so he begins romancing Bison. Unfortunately, Fadel is apparently extremely protective, so Kant ropes his friend Style (Dunk Natachai) into distracting him.
Everything becomes a little less clear after that.
Seriously, this is a trailer with a lot going on, and that’s without even getting into the nipple play. From what I can tell based on both trailers, Fadel and Bison mostly focus on corrupt politicians. And there seems to be some sort of power struggle going on between different factions. How much any of them are involved in the power plays remains to be seen, but it looks like Fadel and Style, at least, do not fare so well.
I need answers for things. Why is Style holding what looks like a sniper rifle? Does that have anything to do with why he is so scared in some of the scenes? Is that seriously Bison making Kant jump off the boat? Is that dance number in the bowling alley real or a fantasy sequence? Who is Bison confronting with the gun? I know these are all questions that will be answered when I watch the show, but that’s not for like three weeks and I need to know now.
There’s also the fact that this trailer bounces between genres. Is it a gritty action film? Is it a romcom? Is it light erotica? Is it a musical? The answer is yes. Just… yes.
Unfollow Me Now, because this is going to be my entire personality for the next, like, four months.
The Heart Killers premieres Wednesday, November 20 at 8:30am EST. It looks like it will air on iQIYI. Be prepared for reviews filled with caps lock and incoherent babbling.
