From writer and Monster Forge founder Shannon Eric Denton (Spider-Man, League of Legends) and artist David Hartman (Phantasm: Ravager, Transformers Prime), the Kraken graphic novel will be published by Titan Comics come September 30, 2025.

According to the promo material, the upcoming Kraken graphic novel will be set in the alternate 1930s. The narrative will feature dark magic, ancient horrors, and occult powers. The story is meant to appeal to fans of historical and supernatural thrillers. I do enjoy supernatural thrillers!

You will get to follow an adventurer named Kraken. He disappeared for three years but has to make a return to search for allies to help stop an evil sorceress who wants to unleash a whole bunch of eldritch monsters on the world. Take note; Kraken isn’t your usual adventurer. He has a pistol and… as the name implies… supernatural tentacles!

There’s a long list of pulp heroes I grew up with and as friends like Dave Stevens, Mike Mignola, and Kevin Conran introduced their own to the pantheon I’ve wanted to do the same but with my own monstrous twist,” shared writer, Shannon Denton. “Artist pals James Groman and Kevin Conran deserve a shout-out for their early advice and especially to my stellar Monster Forge cohort David Hartman for bringing Kraken to life! And how about that sweet Mike Mignola cover as well!”

Artist David Hartman talked about his excitement working on such a project. He shared how he loved drawing a story that is a “wild blend of pulp adventure, cosmic horror, and action-packed characters.”

Kraken will have two covers to collect from David Hartman, and Mike Mignola (Hellboy) when it debuts on September 30, 2025. The Mignola cover fits perfectly with the vibe of this graphic novel. The interior art and the shenanigans occurring in the preview pages are also giving me Hellboy. And that’s a good thing as far as peaking my interest goes.

I like the visualization of the monsters and the gore. It’s disturbing but also comedic in a way. Also, I’m looking forward to learning more about Kraken’s origins and what led to him transforming into a being with supernatural tentacles and his current face.

Judging by the promo images, the titular hero will find some kind of magical sword as the story progresses. The blade seems to be broken. So, I want to learn more about the reason behind such a blade. Also, yes, to his world-saving team including two women who appear to be quite capable against an army of demons.

You can go ahead and pre-order the regular edition from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million, and Forbidden Planet (UK).

As of writing this post, the paperback version can be yours for $17.99, giving you an approximate 112 pages of story.
