“Toy Story 5” Official Trailer Pits Woody’s Crew Against Tech Toys

The official trailer for the upcoming animated Toy Story 5 has been released, and I have to say that, yeah, I will be watching it in theaters come June 19, 2026.
Should the long-running Toy Story franchise have concluded with the third installment in 2010 that featured Andy passing his toys to Bonnie? Yes.
However, this is Hollywood we are talking about, and we all know that the House of Mouse doesn’t allow any IP to rest for too long if there’s still a whole lot of money to be made. So, Toy Story 4 followed in 2019. Again, fans thought this particular installment should have ended the franchise, as it allowed Woody to reunite with Bo Peep and made Woody into a lost toy out to help other toys find owners. However, again, with the fourth chapter earning a whopping $1.074 billion at the global box office, a fifth installment was bound to happen.
So, here we have Toy Story 5. And while I wasn’t keen on the idea at first, I have to say that the premise of seeing traditional toys being pushed away due to the introduction of tech-based “toys” did catch my attention. And after watching the official trailer, I wouldn’t be surprised if Toy Story 5 also prints money for Disney.
The trailer opens with Bonnie having an imaginary wedding for (ugh!) Forky. Things are going well for the toys until Bonnie receives a package containing Lilypad. Bonnie’s immediately hooked to the screentime, forgetting about her conventional toys.
Fans who had been wondering about how Woody would return to team up with Buzz, Jessie, and the rest after the events of Toy Story 4 got their answer as the trailer showed Jessie’s conversation with Woody about numerous other toys facing a similar experience because of devices like Lilypad “invading” their homes.
While it’s great to see the banter between Woody and Buzz, you can tell that the narrative focus is going to be Jessie’s fear of being abandoned again, especially after what she went through during the very emotional flashback sequence in Toy Story 2.
Though the toys will likely fight against Lilypad’s influence in some manner, I’m unsure about where the narrative is headed before the credits roll. We got a scene where Woody seemed to have a realistic take about technology being more attractive to kids, as such devices offered more than just playtime. And I highly doubt the movie will have Bonnie throwing away Lilypad during the finale, as that wouldn’t be “realistic” even though this is a fictional world where toys come to life.
Also, yes, I know it’s ironic how Disney/Pixar made an animated movie about getting kids to play with conventional toys again instead of increasing their screentime, even though Disney+ is used for babysitting children.
Here’s the highly enjoyable trailer! There’s a bunch of good jokes in there!
I’m just assuming here, but judging from the trailer, I think part of Toy Story 5 will involve some kind of camping trip where the toys aren’t fond of Bonnie and the other campers using devices like Lilypad instead of being out in nature doing the usual summer camp stuff.
