Twilight Out Of Focus: BL Anime Announces Cast & Premiere Date (Sort Of)

The Twilight Out Of Focus boys’ love (BL) anime has revealed a July debut, along with new key art, voice cast, and staff members.

Twilight Out Of Focus is the story of Mao Tsuchiya and Hisashi Otomo. Here is the summary for the manga, which is published in English by Kodansha Comics:

Second-years Mao Tsuchiya and Hisashi Otomo make three promises: 1) That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend, 2) That Hisashi will never think of Mao “in that way,” and 3) That they’ll always knock before entering, in case someone is having some “private time.” The two’s ground rules should ensure a peaceful life together in their dorm, but life is never as simple as it should be, and some things are not so easily promised…

The cast was revealed to be Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Mao Tsuchiya, Yuma Uchida as Hisashi Otomo, Makoto Furukawa as Jin Kikuchihara, Masatomo Nakazawa as Giichi Ichikawa, Takuya Eguchi as Rei Inaba and Soma Saito as Shion Yoshino. They are all reprising their roles from the audio drama.

(L-R): Jin Kikuchihara, Giichi Ichikawa, Hisashi Otomo, Mao Tsuchiya, Rei Inaba, Shion Yoshino

Toshinori Watanabe (Tokyo Ghoul:re, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest) is directing the anime for Studio DEEN. Character design is by Yoko Kikuchi (Kuroko’s Basketball, Junjō Romantica). Series compositions are by Yoshimi Narita (Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie, Wonderful Precure!).

I’ve honestly been slacking on my anime watching since I got into Thai dramas, and an announcement like this is just what I need to jump back into things. “July 2024” is still pretty vague, and there’s no word yet on where the series will be streaming. (Odds are pretty good on Crunchyroll, considering that’s my source, but we don’t know for sure.)

I’m completely unfamiliar with this manga, so if anyone reads it and can fill me in on what to expect, that would be great! Looks like it’s going to be a friends-to-lovers situation, just based on the summary. (“And they were roommates” is playing on repeat in my head right now.)
