The Bitching Dead Issue #38: We Don’t Care About The Reapers!

The Bitching Dead Issue 38 had Tara and I cover episodes 3, 4, 5, and 6 of The Walking Dead season 11.

The (unfortunately) long-running TWD series came back for its eleventh and final season on August 22, 2021. For the first time in The Bitching Dead history, Tara, Bekah, and I decided to record our live-watch reactions to the first two episodes, which you can enjoy below. In a sense, we didn’t outright dislike episodes 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead season 11. However, our joy was short-lived because the narrative decided to drag as the season continued.

As for the ratings, a whole lot of people who stuck around for season 10 didn’t return for the final season of The Walking Dead, with the show’s current installment averaging approximately 1.9 million live-viewers. It will be interesting to see if people decide to come back once the series airs the mid-season finale (which we think will be on October 10, 2021).

Coming to episodes 3 – 6, there wasn’t a lot Tara and I liked. But, to be fair, there were certain moments that were handled quite well in our opinion.

Here are the highlights from The Bitching Dead issue 38 in no particular order!

• We got a new countdown visual because we’re professional like that. Ha!
• Tara and I liked how Judith, Gracie, R.J., and Hershel had become good friends.
• What we didn’t like was a bunch of older kids playing around with a kid zombie trying to get through the broken wall. The behavior of those kids made no sense considering the events they had recently faced.
• Turns out, the kid zombie was played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s son.
• The way Tara and I totally forgot Alden was raising a “Community Baby” with Kelly.
• Rosita talking about seeing Abraham in her dreams and how he wanted to tell her to do something felt weird. Is she going to die soon?
• Who is doing Rosita’s eyebrows during a zombie apocalypse?
• Not the show reminding us of Buttons!
• Daryl’s storyline involving the Reapers is boring. We don’t care about his girlfriend coming back. We don’t care about Pope!
• Tara went on a rant about how The Commonwealth was able to make ice cream that resembled processed ice cream and not the usual homemade stuff. Is The Commonwealth really wasting resources making factory-style ice cream for certain citizens or was it an oversight from the production department? Also, where did they get sprinkles from?
• Can the show stop bringing back The Whisperers? They aren’t a threat anymore. Forget about them.
• We both enjoyed episode 6, ‘On the Inside’, focusing on Connie and Virgil being trapped in a creepy house. The way the sound was turned off during Connie’s perspective helped amp up the tension. It was quite possibly the best TWD episode we’ve had in seasons!

Our recommendations are:

• Go and watch SyFy’s SurrealEstate. It stars Tim Rozon (Wynonna Earp) and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek). It’s a mystery/drama/comedy show about a real estate agency tasked with selling haunted properties. It has a diverse cast and two of the main characters are queer. The first season only has 10 episodes. So, it’s bingeable.
• Squid Game is a South Korean series on Netflix you should check out. The first season has nine episodes. It’s about a bunch of people trying to finish a mysterious survival game to win the cash prize. Get ready for lots of death and betrayals.

We do plan on recording our live reaction to The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 premiere (which will air on TV come October 3, 2021). So, keep an eye out for that.
