“Boruto: Two Blue Vortex” Manga Issue 10 Review: Kernal

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga chapter 10, titled ‘Kernal’, continued with Jura’s pursuit of Himawari, while also answering some questions about Kurama’s return.

Even though they are extremely dangerous, I like how the creative team has decided to add some humor through Hidari and Jura’s portrayal. They are still trying to understand humanity and their lack of knowledge leads them to make certain sassy remarks or behave in a certain manner. Jura mentioning aesthetics after what he did to Inojin… Wow!

I’ll get to the severity of that particular scene in a bit, but it sure made me laugh.

With Jura chasing after Team 10, Hidari stayed behind to handle Konohamaru and the other ninjas he was with. Hidari’s clearly annoyed by the Konoha ninjas being on the offensive even when defeat is inevitable. However, before Hidari could attack Konohamaru, Salad and Sumire appeared and that made Hidari immediately attack Salad.

Due to Hidari wanting to consume Salad after absorbing chakra from Sasuke, I thought he would at least try to talk to her to make sense of why he felt the need to attack her in such a way. But nopes. Hidari wasn’t into wasting time.

We have seen how strong the Shinju clones are because of their momentary skirmish with Boruto a few chapters back. They are supposed to be stronger than Code. That’s why I was a bit worried about Salad facing Hidari. I know she grew stronger during the timeskip. But I wasn’t sure about her becoming strong enough to face a Shinju on her own.

The way Salad countered Hidari is definitely going to make the fandom redo their power-level charts. Not only did Salad detect Hidari’s attack after activating her three-tomoe Sharingan, but also she was fast enough to dodge his Chidori and even land a hit on him with her own Chidroi. Talk about speed and reflexes!

With the story setting up Salad vs Hidari, I’m looking forward to seeing how Salad fares against such an opponent in the next issue. Of course, their fight will bring forth Salad’s concerns about Sasuke’s whereabouts and why Hidari resembles her father.

Even though Konohamaru and Sumire are there as well, I kind of want to see Salad have a one-on-one with Hidari. I really want to know just how strong Salad’s supposed to be in the current timeline.

Jumping to Team 10, Jura’s able to stop them from flying away further. The short chase allowed Himawari to have a conversation with Cub Kurama about why he was inside of her. Turns out, Tailed Beasts can’t be killed. Their energy can vanish, but they are always reborn (how long it will take for them to reappear isn’t set in stone though).

Also, Cub Kurama being inside Himawari is likely due to her Uzumaki and Hyuga lineage.

From what I could understand, when a female Jinchuriki gave birth, there was a risk of the Tailed-Beast escaping her body during the birthing process (as we saw with Naruto’s mother Kushina). However, when a male Jinchuriki fathered a child, there was a chance of the Tailed-Beast chakra being transferred into their offspring (as with Naruto’s daughter Himawari).

According to Cub Kurama, Himawari’s lineage afforded her the best chakra affinity with him. So, if she played her cards right, she could tap into Cub Kurama’s chakra on a whole other level.

I liked how Himawari desperately called out for Cub Kurama to help her against Jura. Even though she’s a trained ninja, this was the first time Himawari experienced a dangerous threat directly targeting her. It’s sometimes easy to forget that the characters being featured in this story are still kids.

I think it was obvious that Himawari wasn’t going to be able to access Cub Kurama’s powers until something drastic happened to her friends. And that’s exactly what transpired. Inojin got impaled by Jura’s Wood-Style attack and that allowed Himawari to transform via Cub Kurama’s power.

Now, I don’t think that Inojin’s actually dead. I think he will be okay after some medical attention. However, it’s going to be awesome to see Himawari attack Jura in a fit of rage with her newfound power. She’s likely going to lose against Jura. But still, I’m here for the cool scenes.

Kawaki and Delta are also making their way to Himawari for backup. So, it’s going to be a good battle regardless of the outcome.

As for Boruto, even though his sister’s in danger, he’s been taken off the board for a bit due to his Karma Mark resonating with Kawaki’s Karma Mark. It seems like Momoshiki taking over Boruto is still a very real threat. Boruto told Shikamaru he needed a little break before he could reenter the battlefield. Frankly, I’m okay with such a development. It allows other characters to get the spotlight for a couple of chapters.
