“The Conjuring: Last Rites” Possesses Domestic and International Weekend Box Office!

The numbers are in! And as expected The Conjuring: Last Rites secured the top position at the domestic and international weekend box office. I’m glad for the movie’s success because I enjoyed watching it.
Starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson in their iconic horror roles as Lorraine and Ed Warren, The Conjuring: Last Rites grossed an estimated $83 million at the domestic box office and an impressive approximate $104 million internationally, making the worldwide collection currently stand at around $187 million. That’s a whole lot of money for a film with a reported production budget of $55 million.
Even though The Conjuring: Last Rites is being promoted as the final chapter in the Ed and Lorraine Warren story, I wouldn’t put it past Warner Bros. to find a way to keep the IP going because there’s clearly still a lot of cash to be made here. I won’t be surprised if Wilson and Farmiga are brought back somehow, even though the current project was about the Warren duo getting back into handling their final demonic case after retirement.
The current opening numbers place The Conjuring: Last Rites as the best debut for the long-running franchise, while also being the third-biggest opening ever for a horror film (behind the two It live-action movies).
I enjoyed watching The Conjuring – Part 4. As a fan of the chemistry between Ed and Lorraine, I liked how they were portrayed in the latest installment. The story had a bunch of enjoyable horror/thriller moments. I also liked how Judy Warren was handled. A gripe I have is how most of the movie felt like a drag due to the narrative delaying the now-retired Warrens from taking on the supernatural case linked to a cursed mirror from their past.

As for the rest of the weekend box office, the second place on the list was secured by the live-action musical Hamilton with an estimated $10 million. Even though the project’s been available on streaming for years now, it looks like people were interested in watching it on the big screen.
Following Hamilton was Weapons with an approx. $5.3 million, pushing the global haul to $251 million.
Freakier Friday was at number 4 with an estimated $3.8 million, increasing the worldwide collection to $142 million.
MCU’s Fantastic Four: First Steps had a current domestic weekend of around $2.7 million. For those who might have missed it, the superhero action movie did manage to cross the $500 million mark last week, with the present global haul being $511 million.
