NYCC 2025: Hanging with the “Bat-Fam”

Bat-Fam is the latest in a long line of animated versions of the iconic Batman characters. Spun off from the film Merry Little Batman, Bat-Fam will explore a different side of Batman: the family man.

The series follows the adventures of Bruce Wayne and his son Damian, joined by their loyal butler (and Damien’s grandfather) Alfred, Alfred’s niece Alicia (yes, named after Alicia Silverstone, who played Alfred’s niece in Batman and Robin), Damian’s other grandfather (aka Ra’s al Ghul), reformed super villain Claire, and Man-Bat (for some reason). As so much of Batman media focuses on Batman, Bat-Fam intends to focus on a side of Bruce that we don’t often get to see. It’s meant to be more like a family sitcom than an action show.

Bat-Fam Season 1 Official Trailer

Warner Bros. Animation hosted a Bat-Fam panel at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 10, which screened the first episode of the series and featured a panel discussion with members of the cast.

I won’t spoil too much about the first episode, but it was chock full of action and humor and is definitely reminiscent of a traditional family sitcom. Think something like Wizards of Waverly Place or I Love Lucy. Basically, shenanigans!

Executive producer Mike Roth said that the art style alone warranted a continuation, as they were very eager to see what other DC characters would look like animated in that way. And so far, there haven’t been any characters that they weren’t allowed to use. Roth said that DC has been very good about “letting them play in the sandbox”.

Roth was in the press room, alongside cast members Yonas Kibreab (Damian), London Hughes (Alicia), and Bobby Moynihan (Man-Bat), to talk about the upcoming season.
