“Boruto: Two Blue Vortex” Manga Issue 30 Review: All Them Nuisances

Boruto Two Blue Vortex manga issue 30, titled ‘All Them Nuisances’, featured a twist nobody expected in the fandom. And while I’m okay with the character involved being handled in that manner, I don’t want Inojin there at all.

With our young ninjas trying to handle numerous Mamushi running around in Konoha, ‘All Them Nusiances’ opened with the aftermath of Shikadai pulling four Mamushi off a roof and Chocho following Shikadai’s attack with hers. However, as expected, a mere hit from Chocho in her Base Form wasn’t enough to keep the Mamushi clones down, even if Chocho’s attack was strong enough to break the ground. With the Mamushi copies getting up and multiplying, I liked how Himawari stepped forward. I also liked how her bravery was immediately countered by her severe lack of actual battle experience.

Readers are aware that Himawari’s been training with Cub Kurama inside a shared psychic plane. She’s got a whole lot of growing up to do, as far as Cub Kurama is concerned. But in the realworld, Himawari possesses immense destructive force. She can shoot a Biju Bomb as if it’s nothing. But, coming back to her lack of battle experience, Himawari was clearly unaware of how much collateral damage such an attack could cause. Yay to Shikadai demonstrating some quick thinking and asking Chocho to throw the Mamushi clones (which he had entrapped in a Shadow Paralysis Cage) as high as possible into the air so Himawari’s Biju Bomb could explode away from Konoha civilians.

I have been waiting for the rest of the young ninjas to get power-ups, and it looks like both Shikadai and Inojin have received them. Inojin recently learned the Mind Transmission Formation Jutsu under Kashin Koji, while Shikadai has been shown using his Clan’s secret Shadow Technique in ways we have never seen before in the Naruto/Boruto IP. Not only was Shikadai able to stun four Mamushi without his shadow linking to theirs in the previous chapter, but Shikadai’s created a cage out of shadow in the latest chapter. The unique cage didn’t immediately dissipate after Chocho threw it toward the sky, severing the cage’s link from Shikadai’s shadow.

We haven’t seen Inojin and Shikadai demonstrate OP offensive Jutsu. But then again, at least, they got some kind of power-up to their skill sets. Also, Inojin and Shikadai aren’t the heavy hitters of their team. That role falls on Chocho. So, I have my fingers crossed she gets to showcase a cool Jutsu, too.

Coming back to Himawari, I appreciated Shikadai being stern with her. As he put it, he and Chocho won’t always be there to support the young Uzumaki. Himawari deciding to shoot a Biju Bomb inside the village shouldn’t have been an option in her mind in the first place, no matter how much anger she felt toward the Mamushi clones.

Even though Boruto and the rest were trying their hardest to eliminate the copies, their numbers kept increasing. Apparantly, there were more than a hundred of them trying to track down Eida. Kashin Koji did mention previously that a higher number of clones meant lower cognitive abilities. However, I have yet to see any indication that Mamushi clones were operating with decreased mental prowess.

Another major hindrance in ‘All Them Nuisances’ was Lord Kobu’s persistence when it came to interrogating Shikamaru over possibly aiding Boruto. He didn’t care about the village currently being under a state of emergency, or Sai’s inability to guarantee his safety. Lord Kobu has done nothing to endear readers. And that’s the point of his character. So, kudos to the creative team for portraying Lord Kobu as yet another nuisance in the narrative.

Not being able to refuse the summons any longer, Shikamaru finally showed up in front of Lord Kobu. However, Kashin Koji had a plan. If there’s one thing Kashin Koji won’t allow, it’s for anyone, even Lord Kobu, to create an obstacle in his mission to rid Earth of the Shinju beings.

Unknown to Shikamaru, the first step in Kashin Koji’s strategy involved using Inojin’s Mind Transfer Jutsu via a small frog hiding inside Shikamaru’s clothes to ensure Inojin gained control of Lord Kobu’s mind and body. Traditionally, the Mind Transfer Jutsu needed the target to be in the user’s line of sight. That’s why seeing such a Jutsu being used by Inojin while he was miles away from Konoha was cool. Inojin being able to target people from a distance, using one of Kashin Koji’s small frogs to pinpoint the target, makes Inojin quite formidable.

The second step was making Inojin, in Lord Kobu’s body, leave the interrogation office and head toward the roof of the Hokage building.

The third step was… drum roll… to kill Lord Kobu.

As I said, no one can stand in front of Kashin Koji’s singular mission to defeat the Shinju opponents. I liked how Inojin was hesitant to go along with Kashin Koji’s plan. I get that Inojin and his peers grewup in a time of peace. However, I do feel like, due to the type of character Inojin happens to be, he would have still hesitated to make Lord Kobu fall off the roof even if he was in an era of war.

Kashin Koji did make the tiny frog antagonize a Mamushi clone who had arrived at the Hokage building, of course, asking about Eida. That’s why I’m interested in seeing if Inojin will continue being inside Lord Kobu’s body to save the official from angry Mamushi clones or if he will release the Jutsu and leave Lord Kobu to fend for himself because Inojin will feel any attack that manages to land on Lord Kobu.

Additionally, with Sai now being privy to Inojin’s involvement, after realizing his son’s control over Lord Kobu, I wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up to lend his only offspring a hand against the Mamushi clones. Also, I’m interested in learning the state of Lord Kobu’s psyche while being under Inojin’s telepathic control. From what I remember, a person hit by the Mind Transfer Jutsu can tell they are being controlled by someone else, even sensing the user’s psychic presence, including their face, inside their head. So, unless the Boruto manga retcons how the Jutsu operates, I don’t think Lord Kobu would be happy about Inojin controlling him.

Before I conclude my review, I have to mention Boruto’s short scene with a handful of Konoha Police officers who thought they had managed to capture our lead. We got to see Boruto’s sword (being upgraded by Sumire) absorb the Chakra from an unnamed police officer. Boruto did mention how someone like him shouldn’t provoke a Mamushi clone, as losing such an officer would be a loss to Konoha. With how the anonymous character got a panel focused on his gaze following a flying Boruto, I think we will get to see said officer soon enough, possibly assisting Boruto in some manner.
