Charlize Theron to Replace Brad Pitt in Sony’s “The Gray Man”
With films like Aeon Flux and the recent blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road under her belt, the talented Oscar winner Charlize Theron has proven her mantle as an action-star so much so that she’s in talks to replace Brad Pitt in The Gray Man.
According to Deadline, Sony is in the process of swapping the genders of the lead role and bringing Charlize Theron onboard the live-action adaptation of Mark Greaney’s novel. The script is by Anthony and Joe Russo, who are also busy working on the next two installments of The Avengers and Captain America: Civil War.
The Gray Man is about a CIA op-turned-assassin who will be saving the lives of daughters he didn’t know he had while fighting bad guys. Now you all must be wondering how a female protagonist wouldn’t know she had given birth? Well, it is a film, so anything can happen. Maybe she thought they were killed? Anyway, I have confidence in Sony to come up with something that’ll work with having a female lead in such a story.
For those of you who didn’t know, Angelina Jolie got to star in Salt after Tom Cruise decided not to do the project. While this doesn’t happen often, it’s exciting to know that the studio is considering an actress instead of signing another actor to replace Brad Pitt. This fact alone has made me excited to see The Gray Man when it eventually comes out. I have had my fair share of watching actors playing trained assassins or CIA agents saving the world. We still need a lot of diversity in film and this is a step in the right direction.
What do you think of Sony’s decision to cast Charlize Theron? Are you excited about The Gray Man? Let us know!
