Tom Hardy Cameo in Episode VIII: He Joins the Star Wars Ranks
Good news, Star Wars, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Tom Hardy fans – earlier today, MakingStarWars.net posted a good bit of information about a Tom Hardy cameo in Episode VIII.
There were several unexpected cameos in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the element of surprise was definitely one of the most fun things about those cameos. But when it comes to Episode VIII, they don’t seem to be holding back quite as much. Not only do we know about the Tom Hardy cameo in Episode VIII; several details were released as well.
Warning: This article contains spoilers about Star Wars Episode VIII, particularly Tom Hardy’s cameo and any other characters it may involve.
Based on what MakingStarWars.net revealed, the Tom Hardy cameo in Episode VIII is likely to be very similar to Daniel Craig’s brief stint as a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens. Meaning, Hardy will also portray a First Order Stormtrooper, and we probably won’t get to see his face either. But instead of interacting with Rey, Hardy’s character is supposedly going to have a brief scene with Finn. Not only that, Stormtrooper Hardy believes that “FN-2187” is actually a “Resistance infiltrator and spy” and allows an amazed Finn to proceed about his business (which we can assume is some sort of infiltration mission).
Personally, if the tone of this scene is as comedic as MakingStarWars.net thinks it will be, I’m wondering how well it will fit into what many fans expect to be a much darker film. Or are the writers and directors splitting off a bit more from the original trilogy, even after keeping The Force Awakens so similar to A New Hope?
On the other hand, this is pretty early and surprisingly detailed information about the Tom Hardy cameo in Episode VIII, perhaps there will be more – or maybe even less – to it than what we think we know.
In the end, only time – 583 days, as of right now anyway – will tell.
