“Boomerang” Season 2 Has All WOC Directors & Gets New Trailer
The premiere date for Boomerang season 2 is almost here. BET has released a new trailer to let you know about the character arcs to look forward to. Also, the entire second season was directed by women of color.
According to Deadline, Boomerang season 2 boasts a roster of WOC directors for the upcoming eight episodes.
Angeli Millan and Dime Davis serve as co-showrunners. Four of the new episodes were directed by Davis while Tiffany Johnson and Katrelle N. Kindred directed the remaining four (two each). The second season is Kindred’s directorial debut.
“This season, we really wanted to go bigger and bolder,” said Davis. “Keeping everything we loved from the first season and dumping the rest, we were able to find a unique approach to the storytelling in season 2. We were given the freedom to make Boomerang our own, and Angeli and I ran with that.”
She added, “We’ve truly made this season of Boom an ensemble show, delivering dynamic character arcs that ask a lot of our cast — and it’s all been worth it — the performances, this season, are truly magical…as is the show.”
I enjoyed reviewing the first season of Boomerang and I’m looking forward to its return. It’s a spin-off and continuation of the Boomerang film that starred Eddie Murphy (Marcus) and Halle Berry (Angela). The show focuses on Marcus and Angela’s daughter Simone and Bryson (the son of the film’s character Jacqueline) and their group of friends as they try to address various situations in life as young professionals.
The series is produced through Hillman Grad Productions and Halle Berry’s 606 Films, in conjunction with Paramount Television. Berry and Lena Waithe are executive producers of this project.
Here’s the new trailer!
While there’s a lot going on in the trailer, I’m very interested in seeing what the bisexual character Ari will go through. From what I can tell, it looks like he’ll be addressing the issue of heteronormativity that comes up depending on the type of partner bisexual individuals are with and how society reacts to said couple.
Boomerang season 2 will air on BET come March 11, 2020.
