Curt Pires and comiXology Announce “Lost Falls”, “Memoria” and Return of “YOUTH”
Writer Curt Pires has a number of stories he’ll be telling via comiXology. Good for him! Along with announcing two new series Lost Falls and Memoria, superhero title YOUTH is returning for a second season. YOUTH season 1 is also getting a print publication from Dark Horse Books.
Written by Pires, Lost Falls has been described as a social-minded mystery box thriller with art by Antonio Fuso, Pierluigi Minotti, and Lee Loughridge.
Coming to the second title, Memoria has been described as a crime thriller with art by Sunando C and Mark Dale.
“I’m very excited to finally pull back the curtain and unveil these projects we’ve spent the last year in the trenches working on,” said Pires. “With YOUTH Season Two, Lost Falls and Memoria, I issued a challenge to myself and my teams to make the greatest comics we could—comics that rival the greatest comics published anywhere by anyone in any format—and I’m excited to unveil the results of our labor. These books represent what I believe to be the future of comics: bold innovative genre storytelling that’s representative of our diverse and expansive modern world. I hope you’ll come along for the ride.”
As for YOUTH, written by Curt Pires and with art by Alex Diotto, co-creators of the acclaimed comic Olympia, with colors by Dee Cunniffe and letters by Micah Myers, YOUTH has been described an “epic superhuman saga unlike any other.”
Take note; YOUTH is currently in development as an original series with Amazon Studios with executive producer Patrick Moran.
You will be able to buy YOUTH Volume 1, the print edition, collecting issues 1-4 of the digital series, in paperback for the first time from Dark Horse Books in bookstores on April 6, 2021, and in comic shops on April 7, 2021. The upcoming volume features 136 pages (colored). The MSRP is $19.99/$25.99 pbk (ISBN: 978-1-5067-2461-4).
The description reads:
In YOUTH Volume 1 Franklin and River struggle to navigate family, friends, high school, work, drugs, and all the pressures of growing up. As a queer couple, they yearn to escape their lives in a small, bigoted Midwest town. They steal River’s stepfather’s Mustang and hit the road. Their destination? California. But along the way, the car breaks down. They meet some kids who are travelling the country, partying, and attempting to find themselves. They party some more. . .And soon everything changes.
Coinciding with the paperback version, YOUTH Season Two issue 1 will be released on April 6, 2021, too. You can pre-order it right now for $2.99.
Here’s what to expect!
In YOUTH Season Two, six months have passed since the events of the first story. Some of the kids are missing. Some of the kids are dead. Some of the kids are trying to do better. One thing is for certain: they’re not the only ones with powers anymore. A bold expansion to the smash hit first story, YOUTH Season Two will continue with the core cast as well as introduce new characters from all across the globe.
A new chapter of the 4-part second season will be released monthly on comiXology. You can read it for free if you’re a member of Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, and comiXology Unlimited. You can learn about more comiXology Originals here.
Enjoy the preview pages for YOUTH Season Two issue 1.
In my review of YOUTH Season One, even though I liked the overall narrative, I was very clear about my issues with how the series handled the queer characters. Using a character’s bisexuality to cause relationship drama is a big “No” for me.
I’m not saying such messy stories can’t be told. The recently released comiXology Originals title The Final Girls is a good example of that. Featuring a bisexual woman in the main cast, writer Cara Ellison offered proper context to explain why said character acted the way she did. I highly recommend you reading this particular five-part story.
As for YOUTH Season Two, having read the description, I’m intrigued by what Pires has in store for readers.
