MORE Mermaid Webcomics to Check Out During MerMay

I present part 2 of my mermaid webcomics recommendations for MerMay! This time, discover the most unconventional of merpeople, from a mermaid who literally can’t swim to eldritch mermaids.

If you haven’t read the first seven webcomics featured in my first MerMay post, please check it out here! Like in part 1, the selection below features a wide spectrum of mermaids — heartbroken humans who become sirens, a blind man who falls for a “lake monster,” and more. Enjoy!

Hookteeth by boogeymadam

A cosmic horror romance about eldritch mermaids. Fallon, a mechanic, and Mordecai, a scientist, study mermaids in hopes of a cure for an illness called Barnacle Breath. Deliciously horrifying.

Siren’s Lament by instantmiso (Completed)

Just when Lyra is considering a second chance at life, she accidentally falls into the sea. A siren’s kiss leads to her confronting her conflicting desires for her best friend. If she kisses him, it’d be at the cost of his life…

I admire the lore involving sirens and how the curse is transferred. The consistent tension and character dynamics have hooked (no pun intended) me to the end.

Swimming Lessons for a Mermaid by YONGCHAN

Choa, a daughter of a mermaid and a human, lives her days on land because she can’t swim. But then a classmate discovers her secret, and it eventually becomes an opportunity to let him teach her how to swim. An enjoyable webtoon about wading through challenges (pun intended) at your own pace.

Out of the Blue by Ari

In the mid-century American south, a blind dam worker and a merman met one summer. Their relationship grows through music, and the two brace a devastating storm together. Evocative and endearing.

Half Mermaid Princess by Pashmari (Creator’s site is unavailable)

Noria is a mermaid, but because of her being half-human, her tail changes into legs whenever she’s on land. After living under the sea for so long, Noria decides to start life on land. Half Mermaid Princess is a new webcomic, but it holds so much promise that you should check it out!

Ice Massacre by Tiana W. & April P.

A webcomic adaptation of the Mermaids of Eriana Kwai trilogy by Tiana W. the character Meela’s people has been at war with the mermaids for so long. She’s lost her childhood best friend (a mermaid) over it. When Meela is enlisted to travel overseas with her comrades to fight the mermaids, she needs to choose loyalty or love. A compelling f/f childhood friends to enemies to lovers story.

Passage by Gabi Wolf

Hadi searches for the father of his late sister’s newborn child. He gets help from a Sirenian Commander named Ghaleon, but Hadi and Ghaleon’s journey becomes more than its original purpose.

I’ve mentioned Gabi’s works during my February and April roundups because of their impressive storytelling. Passage includes mermaid lore, but that’s not the only reason why it’s on the list. The vivid worldbuilding and attention to detail in Gabi’s work deserve praise and recognition.
