Given is Getting a New Original Anime Disc AND a Live Action Adaptation
Great news for fans of BL manga-turned-anime Given: we are not only getting a brand-new, original anime disc, we are also getting a Given live action adaptation!
Announced yesterday on the anime’s official website and Twitter account, the Given live action adaptation will consist of six episodes, debuting July 17 on Fuji TV On Demand (FOD), Fuji TV’s online streaming service. The live action stars Jin Suzuki as Ritsuka Uenoyama, singer Sanari as Mafuyu Satō, Kai Inowaki as Akihiko Kaji, and Shuntarō Yanagi as Haruki Nakayama. I’m unclear about which part of the manga will be covered in the live action, but it will presumably follow the timeline of the original anime, which adapted chapters 1-11.
The original anime disc, titled Given: Uragawa no Sonzai (Given: The One on the Flip-Side), will ship on December 1, 2021, bundled in the limited edition of the manga’s seventh volume. It’s being produced as a bonus DVD of the Given movie, which premiered in Japan last year and dropped on Crunchyroll this past February, and will feature scenes from midwinter and early summer – which were not depicted in the film.
Given the Movie focused largely on Akihiko and Haruki, with Mafuyu and Uenoyama playing more of a supporting role. (This is a reversal of the original anime, which centered primarily on Mafuyu and Uenoyama and had Akihiko and Haruki as supporting characters.) In doing this, the film cherry-picked scenes from the manga and skipped quite a few moments in Mafuyu and Uenoyama’s continuing relationship. The OAD will include those cut scenes (some of which were featured as stills over the film’s ending credits).
So the movie is mostly about Akihiko and Haruki but I loved these little snapshots of Mafuyu and Uenoyama at the end. pic.twitter.com/zknlaU7cfP

Hopefully Crunchyroll will license the OAD so that it can reach a wider fanbase, the way they did with the movie, because I know that it tends to be difficult to track down these type of extras otherwise.
