You can go ahead and add Disobedience to your ‘must-watch’ list. Starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams, the upcoming film is set to explore religion, spirituality, sexuality, and love. You have to watch the trailer!

Disobedience is directed by Sebastián Lelio, of this year’s Oscar-nominated queer film A Fantastic Woman and Gloria fame. The upcoming movie tells a love story between two women (played by Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams) in an Orthodox Jewish community. The screenplay is by Sebastián Lelio and Rebecca Lenkiewicz. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman.

Disobedience premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. It was positively received, which makes sense judging by the content shown in the first trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis from Bleecker Street:

From a screenplay by Sebastián Lelio and Rebecca Lenkiewicz, and based on Naomi Alderman’s book, the film follows a woman (Rachel Weisz) as she returns to the community that shunned her decades earlier for an attraction to a childhood friend (Rachel McAdams). Once back, their passions reignite as they explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality.

I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about this film. Both actresses are very talented (Weisz being an Oscar-winner while McAdams has been Oscar-nominated). Let’s see if the upcoming queer film translates into more award recognition for the two.

Disobedience is scheduled for a US theatrical release on April 27, 2018, by Bleecker Street. It’ll be released in the UK on August 24, 2018, by Curzon Artificial Eye.

While we’re on the topic of female-centric queer films with impressive talent, keep an eye out for Tully. It stars Oscar-winner Charlize Theron. She will be playing a bisexual mother who starts having romantic feelings for a night nurse named Tully. It’ll hit theatres on April 20, 2018.

Feel free to share your thoughts about Disobedience as well as Tully with us.
