The upcoming queer movie Chrissy Judy has been described as a coming-of-age Drag Queen dramedy. It will have a select theatrical release come March 31, 2023.

Courtesy of Dark Star Pictures, the theatrical release of Chrissy Judy will occur in LA, NYC, San Fran, and other territories. It will be followed by a DVD and On Demand release on April 11, 2023. The movie had its World Premiere at Provincetown Film Festival and then went on to be screened at OutFest, NewFest, and more festivals. From what I have been able to find out, the movie has been received quite well, which is a good thing. We need more well-written movies featuring Drag Queens.

Chrissy Judy has been written, directed, and edited by Todd Flaherty, who also stars in it alongside Wyatt Fenner, Joey Taranto, Kiyon Spencer, and James Tison. The story is about a 30-something-year-old determined gay man named Judy (Flaherty) who goes through a whole lot of personal and professional drama when his best friend and drag sister, Chrissy (Fenner), decides to couple up with someone and move away.

Shot in black and white (for some reason), the narrative is supposed to follow Judy as he reexamines his life and priorities as a queer artist. The entire thing is about rediscovering yourself and taking another look at your relationships and where you want to go in life.

Here’s the trailer!

Judging from the promo material, I’m kind of interested in seeing what kind of development Judy will go through as a character. Being forced to shift from a duo act to a solo one can be tough. And not only that, but Judy’s also losing a best friend as Chrissy opens a new chapter in life. So, I can see where Judy’s coming from.

My only concern is that I don’t want Judy’s character arc to be used as some kind of propaganda about how wonderful it is to be in a relationship as you grow older. As far as my opinion goes, some people are content living alone and there’s nothing wrong with that.

What did you think of the trailer for Chrissy Judy? Are you excited about watching it?
