If you have been waiting for a superhero film that focused on adults trying to deal with superpowers instead of the usual teen coming-of-age fare, Freaks – You’re One of Us might be for you. Netflix will make it available to stream come September 2, 2020.
While the DCEU and MCU give us big-budget superhero content, I appreciate other studios trying something different. Films like Freaks – You’re One of Us have the potential to explore aspects of the superhero genre that the MCU and DCEU don’t have the time to.
Judging by the trailer for the upcoming movie, it looks like it will focus on adults finally deciding to accept they have powers and trying to figure out what kind of life they want to live.
According Netflix’s description, this German superhero offering is lead by a woman named Wendy (Cornelia Gröschel). Wendy’s a working-class mother who realizes she’s got super strength. Apparently, she’s been unknowingly keeping her power suppressed for years through medication.
Of course, there are others like her out there. Check the trailer below. Also, we need to protect Electro Man at all costs!
Along with Wendy trying to control her strength and teaming up with other superpowered beings, she also has to deal with a group of scientists who might have the answers about why certain people have unnatural powers.
I don’t know about you, but I will definitely be watching Freaks – You’re One of Us when it becomes available on September 2, 2020. It looks like a movie that had a reasonable budget to work with. I also laughed at some of the comedic moments showcased in the trailer.
While we’re on the subject of people with strange abilities, Netflix will be releasing Project Power on August 14, 2020. Project Power is a film starring Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback. From what I can tell, the premise deals with humans having access to drugs that can give them superpowers for approximately five minutes.
