‘Heart&Slash’ Is a Cute Hack-and-Slash: Game Review

Health&Slash Title Pic

Heart&Slash is a fun indie-game that has a lot of replay value because of the numerous features it offers. Also it is quite cute to look at, so that’s always a plus!

Heart&Slash is a roughlike game. This means that the levels are randomly generated. Even the weapons will be different whenever you play a level. Death is also permanent so you’ll have to keep that in mind.

We shared news about the Heart&Slash release about a week back. The game is now available on Stream. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but just a few minutes in, I couldn’t stop playing. The story picks up 100 years after humanity lost to robots. The survival of the human race ends up being in the hands of a robot called Heart. However, QuAsSy (Quality Assurance Systems) notices Heart’s malfunction and orders every other robot to attack.

The overall gameplay is quite fast. It is a simple hack-and-slash game but made interesting due to the numerous weapons and other robotic parts to choose from. There are 75 different weapons to use. I personally like the Ice sword and the Lightning hammer. Heart can also choose from 60 different body parts that include Fire Braces, Kinetic Repeller, and even a Rubber Duck body. I made Heart equip the Rubber Duck body and it looks amazing. All of the weapons and body parts can be upgraded to become stronger and unlock new attacks. The graphics are quite simple yet attractive. Everything has a cute look to it, even the enemy robots.

One thing that some players might not like is how fast Heart moves. Heart doesn’t know how to walk. This means that the little robot you’re controlling is always running. With the camera being too sensitive, it can get a bit tough trying to attack and dodge enemies. There were times when I rushed headfirst into enemies or spent a few seconds hitting nothing but air because I got confused due to the camera angles. Healing Heart is also very difficult and you have to be very careful because if you die you’ll have to start all over again. Some enemy robots can provide healing hearts, but they are randomly generated.

All in all, Heart&Slash is an enjoyable action game that offers a lot of replay value. Just make sure not to frustrate yourself by trying to play it continuously for hours and dying numerous times. Take breaks. Play for a few minutes, do something else, and then come back to play it again.

Have you played Heart&Slash yet? What did you think of it? Let us know!
