Today, Disney released the official trailer for the highly-anticipated (and long-awaited) animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, based on the Marvel Comics series of the same name.
It was also announced that the first six episodes of the series, which stars Diamond White and Fred Tatasciore as the titular pair, will hit Disney+ on February 15. However, you’ll be able to see the first episode on the Disney Channel a few days earlier, at 8pm on February 10.
Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur. After Lunella accidentally brings Devil Dinosaur into present-day New York City, the duo work together to protect the city’s Lower East Side from danger.
I was fortunate enough to see a screener of the first episode, and it’s a very fun show! Lunella is a fantastic character, all of the voice actors deliver stellar performances, I love the animation style, and the soundtrack is amazing. This is definitely a show that parents can watch with their kids, but I guarantee adults will enjoy it on their own as well.
Speaking of the soundtrack, which launches the same day as the Disney Channel premiere (February 10), you can already pre-save the album on Spotify and Apple Music.
The series stars Diamond White as Lunella/Moon Girl; Fred Tatasciore as Devil Dinosaur; Alfre Woodard as Lunella’s grandmother, Mimi; Libe Barer as Lunella’s best friend and manager, Casey; Sasheer Zamata as Lunella’s mom, Adria; Jermaine Fowler as Lunella’s dad, James Jr.; Gary Anthony Williams as Lunella’s grandfather, Pops; and series executive producer Laurence Fishburne in the recurring role of The Beyonder, a curious and mischievous trickster.
Some voices you may recognize in the trailer are Jennifer Hudson and Daveed Diggs! They were previously announced as guest stars, but it was revealed today that they will be playing villains Mane and Rat King, respectively.
The season 1 guest cast also includes Gideon Adlon, Pamela Adlon, Anna Akana, Ian Alexander, Alison Brie, May Calamawy, Andy Cohen, Wilson Cruz, Asia Kate Dillon, Luis Guzmán, Maya Hawke, Dr. Mae Jemison, Josh Keaton, June Diane Raphael, Paul Scheer, Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Cobie Smulders, Wesley Snipes and Tajinae Turner. Recurring stars include Omid Abtahi, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Michael Cimino, Indya Moore and Craig Robinson.
Definitely make sure you tune in to Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, whether it be on Disney+ or the Disney Channel. It’s a really great show!
