‘Motherland: Fort Salem’ Has Been Renewed for a Second Season
I’m not sure what to make of this news yet, but, apparently, Freeform has decided to renew the very queer-centric TV series about warrior witches, Motherland: Fort Salem, for a second season.
The news about Motherland: Fort Salem was first reported by TuSubtitulo. I got to know about it through TV Fanatic. As of writing this piece, there has been no official confirmation from Freefrom or related platforms. (Editor’s Note: Between this piece being submitted for editing and published, it has been confirmed.)
However, I have a feeling that the current news is indeed true. It seems like a similar situation to how media got to know about The Umbrella Academy and Elite getting renewed before any official announcements were made.
The first season of Motherland: Fort Salem will air the finale on May 20, 2020.
If there really is going to be a second season of Motherland: Fort Salem, I’m going to be very happy. The world needs such kind of queer content on TV screens.

The series was created by Eliot Laurence. You can read our interview with Laurence here.

Now, I was worried about the fate of the series due to the live-viewing numbers on Freeform. Especially since Freeform decided to recently cancel Party of Five after just one season.
But it looks like repeat viewing and being available online via Hulu and the Freeform app might have helped Motherland: Fort Salem gain a passionate audience?
As for other queer content on Freeform, I wonder what will become of Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, though. While I enjoyed watching said series, I can see Josh Thomas’ brand of humor not being for everyone. (Editor’s Note: This show has also been renewed since this piece was submitted for editing.)
We still have no news about Siren getting a renewal. Our Siren-reviewer Bekah brought up the concern over the show’s low ratings.
Anyway, what do you make of the current news?
