Ball Competition Reality Series ‘Legendary’ Trailer Released by HBO Max
For those of you looking forward to watching Legendary, HBO Max has released the first official trailer for the upcoming reality series around a ball competition. The upcoming show will debut on May 27, 2020.
I covered Legendary back in February because of the controversy surrounding actress Jameela Jamil. Even though Jamil came out as queer, for certain members of the queer community, her involvement in a show about ball culture still didn’t make any sense.
Anyway, whether you want Jamil to be in it or not, Legendary will premiere on HBO Max this month. The new streaming service does seem to have some interesting content. It will launch on May 27, 2020. So, you can watch Legendary on the same day the service becomes available.
The show’s official description (via NewNowNext) reads:
Legendary turns modern-day ball culture into a competition, featuring divas battling on teams called ’Houses’ in challenges involving fashion, dance, and voguing. Each house is comprised of five performers and a leader. The nine-episode series features the teams facing off against one another for a trophy and cash prize. Each episode features a different themed ball and extensive footage of the competitors preparing behind the scenes.
The cast includes MC Dashaun Wesley and DJ MikeQ. The judging panel has Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado, and Megan Thee Stallion.
Here’s the energetic trailer!
You can tell that Legendary isn’t going to shy away from showing ball culture in all its queer glory. The popular TV series Pose has done an incredibly impressive job of bringing the history of ball culture and voguing to the current audience.
So, I appreciate Legendary showing everyone how said culture has evolved and what to expect from it in current times.
What are your thoughts about ball culture entering the mainstream? Will you be checking out this competition series?
